Old Testament
24. I have brought you out of the nations, gathered you from among the nations, and brought you into your own land,
25. I will sprinkle clean water on you and make you clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idolatry.
26. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; I will remove the heart of hardness from your flesh and give you a heart of softness.
27. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my ordinances, and you shall keep my ordinances and do them.
28. You will live in the land I gave to your fathers, and you will be my people, and I will be your God.
new testament
19. Therefore, brethren, we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus.
20. It is a new and living way opened for us through the veil, and the veil is his flesh.
21. And there was a great priest over the house of God.
22. Since we have been sown in our hearts, freed from an evil conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water, let us come to God with a true heart and complete faith.
23. And the one who promised is faithful; hold fast the hope of our faith and do not move it.
24. Look out for one another and encourage love and good deeds
25. Let us not forsake meeting together, as is the habit of some, but exhort us, and more so as we see the day drawing near.
sermon
1. To gain courage: The Holy of Holies inside the temple is covered with a veil and cannot be entered. Only the high priest enters this holy chamber once a year, on the Day of Atonement, to offer sacrifices for the sins of all the people. The death of Jesus removed this veil and enabled all believers to come boldly into the presence of God at any time.
2. To give a great priest: How is it possible for us to come before God's presence? We must not go out with half-heartedness or with inappropriate motives or pretense, but with pure, personal, sincere worship. What Christ has done for us as a great priest gives us boldness to approach God.
3. To give us hope: It is the one we trust who has given us eternal promises. Therefore, we must not be shaken from the hope of the doctrine we believe in and hold onto it firmly. We have given the church community for this, so let's look out for one another, love and encourage each other to do good. Because the church is the shadow of the kingdom of God, it must learn, love, and serve.
God has sent us our eternal hope, Jesus Christ. On Advent, where we wait for the coming of the Lord, let's go to God who gives us hope by relying on the great priest with the courage the Lord gives us. The Baby Jesus, the Prince of Peace who comes into the world, comes to open a new way of living through the veil.
