Title: Jesus Gives Power / Mark 1:21-34
Contents Jesus gives authority / Mark 1:21-34
Key Verse: “All were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one with authority, not as the scribes” (verse 22).
Jesus had the authority of the word. As he taught in the synagogue on the Sabbath, people were amazed at his teaching. Because teaching was like one with authority (Mark 1:22).
Where did Jesus' authority (three) come from?
Authority comes from a life of action. Jesus did not just teach by word of mouth. He lived the word and lived it. You did what you said. So his teachings were accompanied by the weight of life. Authority and power come from sacrifice. A false authority does not sacrifice, pretends to make sacrifices, speaks of love, but does not truly love. But Jesus sacrificed himself to the point of dying on the cross. How can we not fall down before this great and wonderful sacrificial love? Jesus' authority came from God. So the demons went away and the sick were healed.
Jesus gives authority or authority to believers (Hebrews 12:2; Phil 4:13). As Hebrews 12:2 says, “Let us look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,” Jesus gives believers the authority to be perfected. The apostle Paul received the authority that Jesus gave him. That is why he said, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), and he lived like that.
How can I receive the authority that the Lord Jesus gives me? First, cultivate your spirituality through meditation on prayer words. Second, live your life in the Lord (John 15:7). Then ‘the authority of Jesus is my authority’. Let's become Christians who have restored authority, parents and teachers who have restored authority, overcome the temptations of the devil and the world, and live a life of victory and gratitude every day.
Prayer: Help us to live as influential Christians with the power you give us in times of loss of authority. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
