Jesus Gives Rest / Mark 2:23-28
Dr. Hedler from Switzerland studied the relationship between the amount of oxygen needed by humans and human activity. It is said that a large amount of oxygen is consumed when humans work, and oxygen accumulates in the body when they rest. On weekdays, the amount of oxygen consumed while working is greater than the amount of oxygen that is found while resting. . However, when a person takes a break while keeping the Sunday, He is made to work and rest for six days. However, if a person works non-stop for a week, he or she will eventually become ill and not be able to endure it. America's automobile tycoon Henry Ford learned the truth from an early age. It is a fact that, as a result of having office workers work all week, their work efficiency decreases and more people are absent from work due to illness. So, it is said that Ford Motor Company implemented a Sunday holiday system ahead of other companies.
The human circadian rhythm is truly amazing. When God created man, he created the heavens and the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day. He created human beings in the image of God. In other words, God created man to work six days and take a day off. So, if a human violates this biological rhythm, he is bound to get sick. When you work for ten days and take a day off, problems are sure to arise. When you work for five days and take a day off, this also creates a problem.
This biorhythm also applies to nature created by God. Nature is also supposed to rest for the 7th year. Even nature needs to keep a sabbatical year to restore intelligence. So, aren't national parks also partially applying the sabbatical system?
The fact that God allowed us to keep the Sabbath day and the Sabbath year is truly amazing God's wisdom and God's grace. God has given us the Sabbath. It's not just about physical rest. Humans need not only physical rest, but also mental rest.
Anyone who cares will feel this. After reading a book for a while, writing a manuscript, or being inferior to work, there are times when you feel some kind of fatigue in your head. In that case, it's always best to take a break. So, people who are good at studying study with the rhythm.
In the old days, our ancestors were also active in this rhythm. Looking at the writings of the scholars, I read books for a long time and walked around the garden. Here, it means to read a chapter and a part of a book 20 times repeatedly. In the old days, our ancestors also studied the rhythm.

Not only physical work, but also mental work requires rest.
Humans also need spiritual rest. What is spiritual rest? It is meeting God and worshiping God. Man is originally a being who lives in communion with God. However, after Adam and Eve sinned, the relationship between God and man began to develop. Since then, human beings have become empty and unbearable. That is why some scholars (Job 23:3) even say that this phrase, “How can I know where to find God?” is the central verse of the entire Old Testament. Humans need to meet God regularly, listen to God's word, give thanks and praise to God, give God's gift of thanks, and receive new grace and new strength from God to live. Through the order and procedure of worship, the saints Meeting God, worshiping God, hearing the word of God, offering a gift of thanks, receiving the blessings God has given, and returning home.

The Sabbath is indispensable to us both physically and spiritually. It is a day of physical rest, mental rest, spiritual rest, various graces, and the supply of the Gospel. So, when the members come to church on Sunday, the principle is to rejoice and rejoice in a festive atmosphere. In all likelihood, we need to take care of each other so that we don't pour cold water into the festive mood. You can't quarrel and fight in the banquet hall. The more you say, the more pleasant you are. The same is true. The principle is to rejoice and rejoice with each other on the holy day of meeting God. But look at the Jews. They made the Sabbath day troublesome and burdensome. In order to properly keep the commandment, "Keep the Sabbath day holy," the Jews made various rules, and there are 39 rules.
1. You must not write more than two letters on the Sabbath.
2. If you get sick on the Sabbath, you should not call a doctor.
3. You must not sew on the Sabbath
4. You cannot turn on or extinguish a fire on the Sabbath.
5. Even if you have back pain, you should not do massage or acupressure.
6. There is even a rule not to put it on the Sabbath.
7. You must not make and eat food on the Sabbath.
8. You may not even set a table on the Sabbath.
Read verses 23-24 in today's text
“On the Sabbath, as Jesus was passing through the wheat fields, his disciples cut the way and cut the gleanings. The Barseans said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not allowed on the Sabbath?
"At this time, the Pharisees are accusing Jesus of blaming the disciples for breaking the rule not to harvest on the Sabbath. Most people do not even know all 39 of the Sabbath rules. So many Jews who are anxious when it comes to the Sabbath, are anxious about the Sabbath rule if they miss it. They were disgraced and disadvantaged for breaking the law. The happy and joyful Sabbath turned into a painful day. How did Jesus respond to the attacks of the Pharisees? He went back to David’s precedent and counterattacked the Pharisees. When David was in charge, he killed the priest Abiathar. There was a time when he went to get food. At that time, David ate the showbread that was only for the priests, and he got excited and fled. According to the rules, David must not give out the showbread whether he is hungry or not. Because human beings were more precious than rest, Jesus gives a concluding statement by taking this historical fact as an example. Look at <verses 27-28>.
"And he said, The sabbath was made for man. Man was not made for the sabbath... Therefore the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath."
It is said that the Sabbath should be made for man. But, what were the customs and customs of Jewish society at that time? Man was bound by the Sabbath rule and could hardly breathe. But... Jesus was not bound by the Sabbath rule.
The reason is?
Because Jesus is “the Lord of the Sabbath.” The Lord of the Sabbath has authority…Jesus… wanted to give people rest. I can't tell you how much comfort and encouragement these words of Jesus give us.

These days, no one... There is no one who cools our hearts. However, when we look at Jesus... things are different.
