Title: Jesus Helps Widows / Luke 7:11-17
Description Jesus Helps Widows / Luke 7:11-17
Key Verse: “When the Lord saw the widow, he had compassion on her and said, ‘Do not weep’” (verse 13).
As it is today, one of the most pitiful people at that time was the widow. Every time the Bible speaks of poor people, they are a group that appears with orphans.
One such person appears in today's text. She was a woman experiencing the most tragic moment of losing her only hope, the reader. Seeing her weeping in frustration and despair over the loss of that hope, Jesus said, "Have pity and weep. Again, Jesus discovers that He has compassion for those who suffer. Then, touching the coffin containing the corpse, he raises him to life by commanding her son to “rise”. Jesus shows love and power It is a scene that confirms the appearance of .
Looking at these words, different applications are possible to two types of people. First of all, if some of us are experiencing despair, we should receive comfort from today's words. If you look at Dante's new song, 'Hell is no longer hope. There is the expression 'a place where there is no hope'. It is said that 'hell is a place without hope'.
As we can see from today's words, it is because Jesus Christ truly cares for us to meet our needs. That is why it is necessary among us to live without giving up hope in any situation of despair. If any of us are experiencing frustration, despair, or pain, we should tell him. He never overlooks us. He brings to all of us the joy of a widow through the coming back to life of his dead son. You are the one who wants to give.
There is another kind of people who can give help to those who are in such despair and need. Deuteronomy 10:18 says, “He shows no respect, and accepts no bribe, nor does he give birth to orphans and widows. He avenges himself for his sake and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.” This is the part that shows what kind of God we believe in.
And in James 1:27, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” You may find that you are connecting it with caring for the poor.
If you look around us, there are so many people who can help, such as elderly boys and girls living alone. We are living with God as our Father who cares for our needs and fills them. We must think about the meaning of Bujeonjeon Mojeonyeojeon. .We want to participate in such a ministry of love and testify that we are like Him.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for lovingly caring for our needs and giving joy among us by providing them. May we imitate your heart and live in love. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
