Title: Jesus Is Rich to All
Romans 80
Jesus is rich to all
Romans 10:11-13
Introduction: Paul is giving here the Old Testament basis for the principle of salvation through faith in Christ. And it was revealed that God's saving grace is extremely universal, so there is no racial discrimination. “There is no discrimination between Jews and Greeks,” he testified. The law given to Israel in the past created a gap between Gentiles and Jews. The law itself was given to Israel, not to the Gentiles, and there was nothing like this given to Gentiles. But in faith, these barriers are undoubtedly broken down. Because the gospel is the grace of God that frees all mankind from the bondage and curse of the law, He did not discriminate between Jews who received the Law but perished due to the condemnation of the Law, and Gentiles who perished without the Law.
1. Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.
Paul's quotation from the Bible, "Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame" is the content of Isaiah 28:16, just as Romans 9:33 reveals it. “Behold, I put in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of stumbling, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
(1) The saying that he who believes in him will not be put to shame refers to self-blame before the law or conscience. There is no way for all sinners to escape the shame before the condemnation of the law. Even a Gentile has in his heart the law of the heart that God has written down, that is, his conscience. Sinners cannot deceive this sheep:sim. It is always shameful in front of him. But those who believe in Jesus Christ have no such shame. I am freed from the consciousness of condemnation, and I am gaining liberty and peace of mind. For whoever believes in Christ, his righteousness is mine, and his blood has my sins forgiven.
(2) The saying that he who believes in Him will not be put to shame refers to the standing before Him at the Second Coming of the Lord. Christians will have no shame before him. “Therefore, beloved, while you are looking for these things, do your best to be found in peace, without spot or groove in the sight of the Lord” (2 Peter 3:14). But the unbeliever will be put to shame because they are not prepared for this. Regarding this, the book of Revelation says this: “The kings of the earth, and the royal families, the generals, the rich and the strong, and every servant and freeman hid themselves in caves and in the clefts of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall upon us, from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb. cover them, for the day of their wrath has come, who can stand?” (Revelation 6:15-17).
(3) The saying that he who believes in Him will not be put to shame includes shame before the Great White Throne Judgment Seat. The Lord said this to the goats placed on the left side of this white treasure trove of judgment. “And he will say to them on the left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels’ (Matthew 25:41). This proclamation of the Lord is the eternal shame of the unbelievers.
(4) This shame will extend to eternal hell. A rich man who wore purple and had been in contact for all his life had to go down to Hades after death and suffer this shame forever. Regarding this fear of shame, Jesus said, “If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away, for it is profitable for you that one of your bodies is gone and your whole body is not thrown into hell” (Matthew 5:30).
2. The Lord is rich to all
This blessing of faith in Jesus Christ is by no means the privilege of a limited number of people. It's not just Jews who can get it. This is not something only Gentiles can receive. “There is no distinction between Jew and Greek,” he said.
(1) It is said that one Lord has become the Lord of all. One Lord Jesus is Lord of all who believe in Him. Jesus did not come into this world to save only Jews or Greeks. He came to save all those who were written in the Lamb's book of life before the foundation of the world and become their Lord. The people of the Lord, who were predestined in Christ before the foundation of the world, are as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand in the sea. It's not just the Jews, it's not just the Greeks. It has nothing to do with being saved by either Jew or Greek or Jesus Christ.
(2) I said that I am rich to all who call on me. Jesus is truly rich. He said that the riches of Christ are unsearchable (Ephesians 3:8). His gift of grace is also abundant (Ephesians 3:7). It is said to be filled with all the fullness of God (Ephesians 3:19). He is rich in all that exists in heaven and on earth because all that He created the world is His. Then what is the riches that he calls riches to all whom he calls? What is the riches that Jesus says he will share by giving them to everyone as that wealth? It symbolizes his glory. By saying this to his churches, Jesus testified that all believers can share in his glory.
He said, “To him who overcomes, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sit with him on my Father’s throne” (Revelation 3:21). Paul said this in Romans 8: “I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). Then it is the life of Christ. Life is rich to him. We enjoy this life together by believing in him. “He who has the Son has life” (1 John 5:12).
3. Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
After witnessing like this, Paul finally again testified about the universality of salvation. “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” he said. anyone is It is not a privilege limited to Jews. Nor is it a privilege given to the Greeks. whoever it is. Calling on the name of the Lord means a poet of faith. Paul already said this in verse 9 about the way of salvation. “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Calling on the name of the Lord refers to the expression of faith that confesses the name of the Lord with his mouth, which he believes in his heart, and this is manifested in the assurance of salvation through the confession of the name of the Lord and the evangelism of preaching the name of the Lord.
Conclusion: Our Jesus is rich in all things. He is the one who is able to enjoy eternal life, salvation, the glory of heaven, and the kingdom of heaven to all who call on the name of the Lord. How precious and gracious is the fact that this salvation is equally gracious to all who call on his name. I hope you can be truly grateful for that grace.
