Text / Matthew 28:5-6
5 The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here, but is risen, just as he said. Come and see where he lay." (Matthew 28:5) -6) ”
At the time of Jesus, there were two schools of faith in Jewish society. One is the Hebrew sect, a group united with the will to live a life of faith that keeps the law centered in a provincial city. But the Sadducees do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus. Of course, we do not believe in the existence of angels (Matthew 22:23).
“Mat 22:23 Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus on that day and asked,
★ A few years ago, a newspaper in the United States surveyed the faith of the saints through a questionnaire to understand their faith, and I heard a professor saying that 65% of the believers did not believe in the resurrection.
★ Of course, there will be many believers who do not believe in the resurrection even in Korea.
★ Modern theology developed into free theology in 1960 and has now been transformed into secular theology, radical theology, and religious pluralism.
★ Faith in the resurrection becomes the core faith of Christianity. If you do not have faith in the resurrection, you are not a Christian, and you are living a religious life.
I. Resurrection faith...
1) We will break the authority of death, the most feared of life, and receive eternal life (1 Corinthians 15:52).
“When the trumpet sounds, the dead will live incorruptibility, and we will be changed.
(1 Corinthians 15:52)”
Because of the death of Jesus, the believers who followed the Lord were mourning, weeping, and feeling discouraged, but when they heard the news of the resurrection, they followed it one step at a time to testify of the resurrection. When you meet the Lord of Resurrection, you will deliver the hope of resurrection to those who are still living in despair in life.
2) The resurrection of Jesus is our resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20-21).
“20 But now Christ has risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 Since death came through a man, so also the resurrection of the dead” (1 Corinthians 15:20-21).
3) The resurrection of Jesus becomes a network of oxygen in the reality of the saints (Romans 6:4).
“Therefore we were buried with him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).
① When the disciples tremble in anxiety, He brings them peace (John 20:21).
“Jesus said again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent me, so I am sending you” (1 Corinthians 15:52).
② He comes to the disciples who have failed and grants them a successful victory (John 21:11).
“Simon Peter went up and drew the net on dry land, and they were full of great fish, one hundred and fifty-three. Even though there were so many, the net was not torn” (John 21:11).
③ The risen Lord comes to those who are discouraged and gives them joy, peace, and victory (John 14:26).
“The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you” (John 21:11).
II. The three witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus
1) The testimony of angels (Matthew 28:5).
“The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified” (Matthew 28:5).
2) The testimony of women believers (Mark 16:10).
“Mary went and reported this while the people who were with Jesus were weeping and mourning” (Mark 16:10).
3) The testimony of the watchmen who guarded Jesus (Matthew 28:11-13)
“11 The women went into the city and some of the watchmen went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. 12 They gathered together with the elders to discuss and give money to the soldiers, 13 saying, ‘You say, His disciples came by night and we Go stealing him while he was sleeping (Matthew 28:11-13).”
Ⅲ. conclusion
1) The resurrected Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene, Peter, and 11 disciples after the resurrection.
2) When the risen Lord comes, peace and joy are full.
3) At Emmaus, the two disciples met the risen Lord and received the fire of mission (Luke 24:13)
“On that day two of them went to a village called Emmaus, twenty-five miles from Jerusalem” (Luke 24:13).
