Title: Jesus is the Christ

Contents

Text: Matthew 1:18-25

Isaiah 7:14 says, “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Immanuel means “God is with us,” and because God is sinless, He cannot be with sinful humans, but He was with us through Jesus.

Why is God so with us? Verse 21 says, “You will give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” The original Greek word ‘Iesu’, ‘Iesus’, is the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew word “Joshua,” which means “Jehovah is salvation”, is “Jesus”. In the text, Jesus is the name given to us by an angel, an angel of the Lord. This is to let you know well what purpose Jesus Christ came to this world and what work He did. Of course, there were many names of 'Jesus' at that time, but there is only one person who can be used with 'Christ', and it is Jesus of Nazareth who appears in the text.

Jesus is the savior. He is the savior who saves us from sin, disease, and the punishment of hell. In our language, Christ is the word that expresses the office of Jesus, meaning that he is specially sanctified as the ‘anointed one’. In the Old Testament, the anointed office is ① King (1 Samuel 10:1, 13; 2 Kings 9“6) ② Priest (Ex 29:7; Lev 4:5) ③ Prophet (1 Kings 19:16). Because Jesus Christ possessed all three offices, He came as the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Therefore, Jesus Christ, conceived by the Holy Spirit, is the Son of God.

we believe in jesus

First, he is the Son of God. Luke 1:31-32 “You shall call his name Jesus, and he will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High.”

Second, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to this world as a savior. When we say we believe in Jesus Christ, the most central thought is the fact that he is “the Son of God and my Lord and Savior.”

Christmas is coming, the celebration of the birth of this Jesus. Even those who do not believe in Jesus rejoice in giving and receiving gifts on Christmas Day. How precious it is to see the division into B.C. and A.D. starting with the birth of Jesus.

Dear Shepherd Church members, Jesus came as the Christ. He was sanctified as great as a king, sanctified with dignity as a priest, and sanctified as a prophet as a forerunner. I hope this year's Christmas will be more consecrated than ever. In particular, I pray that our saints who celebrate Christmas will also be sanctified so that God will be glorified, and that everyone on this earth will be filled with peace.

- Amen -
