The central word Pilate gives satisfaction to the crowd. cross over
List by topic Jesus
Verse 1: Handed over to Pilate by the Jewish leaders
Verses 2-5: Speak of the truth, silent on false charges
Verses 6-15: Delivered by Pilate to be crucified
Tips 1. The high priests made various accusations (v. 3): The religious reason for blasphemy against God alone would have meant little to the Roman governor (cf. 14:61-64). Thus, the Jewish leaders concocted the following political charges (see Luke 23:2, 5). ① To incite the people to revolt. ② Agitated not to pay taxes to Rome. ③ Claims to be the self-proclaimed ‘king of the Jews’.
Jesus Standing Before Pilate
Jesus speaks the truth before Pilate just as he did when he was interrogated by the high priest, and he is silent about the false accusations of the Jewish leaders. Because answering false accusations in such a situation makes no sense. Now is the time for Jesus to give his life to save the world.
Pilate's Judgment
Judea, which Pilate ruled as governor, was a colony of the Roman Empire. So your Pilate's primary task was to keep the peace. There are historical records that he had already been warned of other revolts in his area. He found no sin in Jesus, but when the Jews threatened to accuse him of Caesar, he agitated for his position and advancement (John 19:12). He handed Jesus over to the Jews to be crucified in order to please everyone while keeping his own safety.
