Title: Jesus Overcame Temptation / Matthew 4:1~4

Content Jesus overcame temptation / Matthew 4:1~4

Key Verse: “Jesus answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4)

Word: According to the text, Jesus overcame the temptation of the devil. If we use the method that Jesus overcame temptation, we can overcome the temptation of the devil. Today, I will tell you the details of the temptation that Jesus received from the devil and how he overcame it. Jesus was subjected to three temptations.

First, it is a test to make bread with stones. In verse 3, the devil said to Jesus that if you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread. When the devil knew that Jesus starved for 40 days, he put his weakness to the test. Even today, the devil approaches people and tests their weaknesses, but tests them with food or substances. By quoting Deuteronomy 8:3, Jesus overcame the first test by saying, “It is written, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Second, it is the test of jumping from the top of the temple. In verse 5, the devil took Jesus to the holy city and set him on top of the temple, saying, “If you are the Son of God, jump down.” When Jesus overcame the first test with his words, the devil also misquoted Psalm 91:12 and jumped, saying, “It is written, ‘He will command his angels for you, and they will support you with their hands so that your feet will not strike a stone. Tested to get off. By quoting Deuteronomy 6:16, Jesus also overcame the second test by saying, “It is written, Thou shalt not put the Lord your God to the test.” This test is a test of honor and power. Even now, the devil does this test without rest.

Third, if you worship the devil, you will be given all the kingdoms under the world. In verses 8-9, the devil took Jesus to the highest mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. This test is a religious test. It is a test to worship something other than God.

Jesus, quoting Deuteronomy 6:13, said, “Go away, Satan, for it is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” He also overcame the third test.

Dear saints, the best weapon to overcome the temptation of the devil is the Word of God. I pray that you will be victorious by reading, studying, and listening to the Bible, armed with the Word of God, and overcome all the temptations of the devil.

Prayer: Like Jesus, let us overcome all temptations with the Word. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
