Title: Jesus Overcame Temptation / Matthew 4:8-11
Content Jesus overcame temptation / Matthew 4:8-11
“Then the devil took him to the highest mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, saying, “All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me. Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only." ” (Matthew 4:8-11)
Word: When Jesus began his public ministry, he fasted for 40 days. At this point, the devil tempts Jesus. He asks Jesus to turn stones into loaves of bread. It is a test for substances. You will be asked to jump from the top of the high temple. It's a temptation for fame. He also shows the kingdom of heaven and its glory on a high mountain and tempts them by saying, “If you bow down and worship me, I will give you all these things. It is a test of authority. Let's look at how Jesus overcame these temptations.
The first is the word. The word of God is a fire, a sword, and authority with power and strength. These words clearly subdue the devil's schemes. In order to overcome the temptations of the devil, we too must deeply root our faith in the Word. And you have to stand right on the Word. I have to live with the word and trust me. We must not forget that the Word is the driving force for victory.
The second is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. When Jesus was active, the Holy Spirit was always at work. Even when he went to the wilderness, Jesus said that he was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness. Even when Jesus was working, the Holy Spirit persuaded and moved people's hearts. This led people to accept Jesus as the Messiah. The Holy Spirit is working in earnest after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus. Even today, He allows us to overcome all temptations with confidence in our faith. We must depend on the Holy Spirit who gives us strong and bold faith.
Third is prayer. Jesus fasted and prayed for 40 days. Prayer is the instrument of power that overcomes all things. Prayer is the way to victory. No matter how cunning the devil's temptations are, they are helpless in the face of prayer. We must also be convinced that we can be victorious by following Jesus, the method taught by the Word, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and watching and praying. No matter what kind of temptation you are faced with, I hope that you will be victorious in the way the Lord has given you by relying only on the Lord.
