Title: Jesus Teaches / Matthew 9:35-36
Content God Jesus
Matthew 9:35-36, Matthew 4:23
As Advent began, over the past two weeks, Jesus has been telling us about who Jesus is. First, the Savior Jesus, the second, Jesus the shepherd, today we want to share the word by confessing the third, Jesus who taught, and Jesus the teacher. This is what Jesus is talking about in today's text.
Jesus went through all the towns and villages
teaching in our synagogue
Preaching the gospel of the kingdom
He healed every disease and every weakness among the people. Matthew 9:35 (4:23)
If you look at these verses, you are summarizing three things Jesus did in the world. He taught first, preached the second gospel, and healed third. Here are three aspects of Jesus that we confess.
In the words 'Preaching the Gospel', we can see the figure of the Savior Jesus. What is the Gospel? God has forgiven your sins. It means that the way of salvation has been opened for you. That is the gospel.
In the words, 'He healed', we can see the figure of the Shepherd Jesus. He said that He had healed every disease and every weakness. Isn't the content of all our prayers here? For every sickness, weakness, we pray. 'Sick' refers to all the problems that arise from physical things along with physical diseases. The word 'weak' includes all the problems we face in life, fears, worries, worries, and concerns. It is for these things that we pray. Because we believe that Jesus is our shepherd, we can pray about these details.
However, the first of the three works of this Lord is 'teaching'. The Lord is not only the Savior, but also the shepherd, not only the shepherd, but also the teacher, Jesus, who teaches clearly.
What did Jesus teach? Because Jesus is the Word that became flesh and came into the world, not only the words of Jesus, but also every action he does are the words and teachings. Therefore, how you live is more important than just what you said. How did Jesus live?
You have lived a life of love. If I could describe the life of Jesus in one word, it would be 'love'. Jesus loved people so much that he came into the world without seeing them. The love of Jesus who came into the world was revealed as a love that accepted even sinners. He accepted the woman caught in adultery as she is and forgave her. You can see the love that accepts Zacchaeus as he is, who was cursed and pointed at him for being a racist. You can see the love of Jesus in the prayer to those who crucified Jesus, please forgive them.
How could Jesus have such a love? Because the Lord always looks at the inner man. He was able to love endlessly because he looked at the soul, not the outward appearance, and not the outward appearance but the hidden image of God. He saw the 0.001% of holiness that still remains in the midst of wicked people. He saw the image of God even in the appearance of a dirty and ugly person. Because of that, he loved, forgave, and accepted that soul. That was the love of Jesus.
We Christians should learn that love. When we see people as souls, and when we see any person as the image of God in their outward appearance, we too can love.
I give you a new commandment, love one another.
Love one another as I have loved you. John 13:34
Walk in love as Christ has loved you. Ephesians 5:2
Children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and truth. 1 John 3:18
He lived a life of service. The way Jesus left the high and high throne and came to the lowly and lowly world is also an example of serving the world. Even while he was on the earth, he continued to teach, heal, and speak in order to save countless souls. The sick, the feeble, the despised, the insignificant, there was nowhere to go. He served in a humble manner. And in the end, he accomplished the greatest service by giving his body for all mankind. Even now, he is serving at the right hand of God by intercession for us. Indeed, the image of Jesus is the image of service.
And he tells us, 'Go and do likewise.' Dear saints who call Jesus Lord, I hope that you will follow the image of the Lord and live in the image of service anytime, anywhere. The way Christians serve is what he is, so it should be. It shouldn't be because he's there. This is because the appearance of life that changes according to the circumstances is not the true image. I hope to become such a person because I am so in the presence of God everywhere.
The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve
to give his life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:28
He lived a life of obedience. Jesus obeyed the will of God even to the point of death. Jesus prayed fervently three times in front of the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane, and ended his prayer by saying, "Drink as I will, but as you will." And he bore the cross silently. We too must imitate Jesus and live a life of obedience as God says. If God tells you to go, you have to go to the Valley of Achor, and if God tells you to sacrifice, you have to give your life. Without this kind of obedience, it is impossible to please God. It is said that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22).
Obedience is obeying God and obeying the Word. Often people think that obedience is done by good people, but in reality, it is done by people with clear decisions. The one who obeys all things is the one who does not obey anything. The word to obey is the same word as the word to make a decision. Obedience can only be done by a person of determination.
He lived a life of healing. Everything the Lord did was to heal. He healed the sin-sick soul. He healed a body suffering from disease. He healed a false life. You have corrected your distorted beliefs. Indeed, the work of the Lord was 'healing' itself. What Jesus did in the world was to heal almost everything except preaching the gospel. Why did Jesus, who had to preach the gospel, do that? Because he valued life. What is more precious than the world is human beings and human life (Matthew 16:26). The Lord valued human beings. No one is a precious and noble soul in the sight of the Lord.
Jesus taught us to live in this form of healing. Above all else, he says, cherish people. This is because human beings are created in the image of God and are breathed in by God. Therefore, words that give love, give life, and give peace should be our words. Meekness, humility, and a gentle touch should be the Christian hand.
( A woman who got into a car accident with her new car brought out the vehicle inspection certificate from the front pocket of the car and burst into tears. Inside the envelope was her husband's words, 'Honey, in any case, don't forget that you are the one I love, not the car.' There was writing. You can read the heart that values people, not cars.)
Jesus is our teacher. To be a Christian is to live a life that follows the teachings of Jesus. That is the life of sanctification, that is the life of discipleship of the Lord, and the life of the people of heaven.
Jesus is our Savior. So we are saved. Jesus is our shepherd. That is why we can bring any difficult problems to Jesus and pray. But also Jesus is our Teacher. Jesus continued to teach the lives of the people of heaven. That is why we must follow his teachings. It must be His love, our love. It should be His humility and service, our service. His obedience must be our obedience. His healing, the life we must follow.
A long time ago, I did a TV commercial for a Korean optician in Los Angeles, USA. The message of the advertisement was that the owner of the optician came out and said in a slurred tone, ?쏛ll I know is glasses.??This advertisement caused a great sensation in people at the time. It is said that this advertisement was awarded an award for the best advertisement. It's bragging that the optician only knows glasses, and only such a person can occupy the top spot.
Isn't this the confession that should be revealed to us Christians? All I want is Jesus. All I know is Jesus. This is our pride.
Dear saints, are most of you people who have acquired a lot of knowledge? Is Jesus in the midst of your knowledge? Do you take His teachings to heart? And are you putting it into your body?
It is the third Sunday of Advent. Jesus the Savior, Jesus the Shepherd, Jesus the Teacher, He is our Jesus. It is a season spent waiting for Him to draw nearer to us. May the loving Jesus caress your souls weary of life.
