Title: Jesus Testified by John Text: John 1:29-34
The Gospel of John is called the “Gospel of Faith”. In particular, the fact that the verb ‘believe’ is mentioned almost 100 times in the Gospel of John, but the noun ‘faith’ is never used shows that faith is accompanied by action. In particular, the Gospel of John is a book written for the purpose of witnessing that Jesus Christ is life and that by believing in Jesus Christ we may receive the “life” that He gives. That is why the Gospel of John is called the book of life. In John 3, the life that is resurrected by the Holy Spirit, in chapter 4 living water that springs forth to eternal life, in chapter 6 the bread of life that never hungers and never thirsts, in chapter 10 the life that the good shepherd gives by laying down his life, chapter 11 You can see that the Gospel of John is the book of life in that Esau deals with the resurrection life of living even after death.
1. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
(John 1:29) Jesus said that he was the Lamb who took away the sin of the world, but the “Lamb” refers to the Lamb who endures in suffering. (Acts 8:32) Jesus, the Lamb who suffers without sin. Jesus, the Lamb who endured silently to forgive our sins through that suffering. When he received the newspaper in front of Pilate, he did not say anything. He was whipped in front of a huge crowd, but he didn't say anything. It was not that he had nothing to say, but that he had shut his mouth for the remission of our sins. Also, a lamb is a lamb without sin. (1 Peter 1:19) Even though Jesus the Lamb was without sin, he did not say that he was innocent. You didn't even defend that I'm not a sinner. Because that is the way to forgive our sins. Just as the people of Israel were freed from the bondage of Egypt through this Lamb, so we are also freed from the bondage of our sins.
2. Jesus is the head of the saints.
(John 1:30) In the text, there is a word “the one who comes after me.” Here, ‘person’ is ‘Aner’ in the original language, and ‘Aner’ refers to ‘male’ unlike ‘Andropos’, which generally teaches ‘human’. In particular, it means that the man is the head of the woman in a marriage relationship. In other words, it is saying that Jesus Christ is the head of all the saints who follow him and that he is the head of the church. The word ‘first’ here has the meaning of ‘first’ in space, time, number, or class. That Jesus was before time. It means that He existed before the universe was created. It is not only John the Baptist, but He who existed before human beings were created. This means that Jesus is the Creator.
3. He who raises us from the dead.
