Title [2009] Jesus Testified by the Bible (Ⅱ)
Contents
Last week I tested of Jesus, the giver of eternal life. Today, I am going to tell you about Jesus, who came in the name of God. All things have a name, and just as a person is called by name when he is born, so does God. The name of God first appears in Genesis 4, but in verse 26 there is a record of Seth, who was born to Adam after Cain and Abel. “Seth also had a son, and he called his name Enosh, and from that time on, people called on the name of the LORD.” I have it. Therefore, it can be seen that Seth and his descendants sought God's help and praised God's grace and love. The name of God was translated as (Heb) Yahweh (Hel) Theos (English) Jehovah.
By “myself,” I mean that I am not created or influenced by anyone, but that I am the One who is everlasting from eternity to eternity, that is, the Eternal One. That God is Jehovah, and only Jehovah is the true God, and he is the true God.
Jesus came in the name of that God. In today's text, Jesus says, "I am come in my Father's name." The name Jesus is the name of God given by God. John 17:11-12 “I have preserved them in your name, which you gave me.” The name Jesus was given by an angel. (Matthew 1:21) Jesus was not a given name, but the name of the eternal God. Name. The angel just conveyed it. That is why Jesus said, “The Father and I are one” (John 10:30). The name takes the place of that person. The fact that Jesus came in the name of the Father means that He came as a substitute for God the Father. That's why Jesus said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father; why do you say, "See the Father?" (John 14:9). “No one has seen the Father, but Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father, has made it known” (John 1:18).
Jesus is God who came in the name of God the Father. (Philippians 2:26, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Col 1:15, Hebrews 1:3, Hebrews 1:4) Heavenly Father’s name was so precious that it was impossible to even call his name. But Jesus, who came in the name of God the Father, gave us that name and told us to use it. Where did you use it?
(1) In prayer (John 14:13-14, 15:16, 16:23) “Until now you have not prayed in my name, but from now on, ask in my name, and God will hear you.”
(2) Baptism (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 22:16) “Baptize all nations in my name”
(3) In the almsgiving (Mark 9:41) “If you serve a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in my name, you are serving me.”
(4) In the blessing (Mark 16:17, Matthew 7:22, Mark 9:38, Luke 10:17) “You cast out demons in my name”
(5) In worship (Matthew 18:20) “Wherever they are gathered in my name, I will be with them.”
(6) Healing (Mark 16:18) “In my name I will lay my hands on the sick and they will recover.”
(7) Salvation (Acts 4:12, Acts 2:21, John 1:12) “There is no other name given to us by which we must be saved.”
In that name, he has given us another Comforter, the Holy Spirit. (John 14:16, John 14:26) The name Jesus is the name of God given by God. Therefore, since we have received forgiveness of sins, salvation, and the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus, we must honor the name of Jesus. It was not allowed to be used in the Old Testament era, but it should be used in the New Testament era.
We must pray in that name, cast out demons, heal the sick, and testify to that name. May your name be honored to the ends of the earth.
