Title: Jesus, the water of life

water of life jesus

Text: Isaiah 55:1

“Oh, all you who thirst, come to the waters, and he who has no money, come, buy and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

He spends his teens acting like he is the center of the world, waiting for the prince on a white horse and living in his twenties, immersed in dreams, and after marriage, he puts all of his heart into owning a house. The second half of life runs in pursuit of fame and wealth. Even today, Jesus approached the woman in Suga, who had gone out to draw water from the well because of her unchanging and unquenchable thirst.

“Whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never thirst. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water springing up to everlasting life” (John 4:14).

I look back on my life now. Isn't that the modern version of Suseong's woman? The living water that never thirsts can be obtained only from Him. Go before him again in word and prayer.

“Whoever believes in me, as the scripture says, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

A single stream of rain is the most desperately needed for a rice paddy cracked like a turtle's back due to a long drought. Likewise, only the water of life of Jesus Christ can quench the neck of sinners who are still struggling with spiritual thirst while enjoying material abundance and the selfishness of all civilizations.

Jesus says that he is the living water of life. The drinks of the world only temporarily quench your thirst. But those who drink the spring water of Jesus Christ, who is the true drink, never thirst. Also, this water of life is a drink that anyone can come to eat and drink without cost. The living water of the Lord is a precious and holy drink given by the breaking of the Lord's own body on the cross. We who have drunk this precious drink should make our conduct holy and reverent. Not only that, I have to sacrifice myself and let another thirsty drink the living water.

“Jesus said, I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will never hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst” (John 6:35)

I recently went to Africa, and their greatest wish was to get a spring. It's asking you to dig a fountain. It is the greatest gift for missionaries to dig a well. African men usually have three wives. We may think that they are morally wrong, but their marriage is different from ours. One more wife is absolutely necessary to draw water.

Women go out to draw water early in the morning. I carry a water jar all day long for a distance of 10 to 20 kilometers. So, because my shoulder hurts so much, I put a strap on my head and put it on my back. Everywhere in Africa you can see many wives carrying water jars.

Missionary Jong-Tae Lim, who works in Kenya, testified that although he had been in Africa for over 10 years, he had never bathed properly. Why? Because water is precious, it is impossible to use it arbitrarily. Water is very precious. The water that comes once is used by the whole family to live all day. So it cannot be washed. When I heard that story, I was so moved. That's right. How could a missionary leave them alone to use the bath water in a place where water is so scarce? Water is precious. They are always tired and thirsty because they have to travel long distances to draw water.

Beloved, this is not unique to Africa. All mankind is thirsty and wandering in search of water. So, for these poor people, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to this earth, was nailed to the cross, and dug a well. For our humanity who are struggling in all kinds of tribulation and iniquity in the valley of the shadow of death, the Lord said on the cross, “I am thirsty.

In fact, the Lord is not thirsty. He just thirsted for us. He is overflowing with living water, but he died to dig a well for us. The Lord dug a well on the cross for sinners who would be eternally destroyed.

* Prayer: The God of salvation who broke the rock in the wilderness and gave us living water! Help me not to dwell on the well of a world that cannot quench my thirst. Accept Jesus Christ, and I will no longer be thirsty, but instead, a river of living water will flow out of my belly to saturate the parched world and live abundantly with the blessing of saving life. Those who believe in Jesus promise that rivers of living water will overflow as the Bible says. I confess that He is the Holy Spirit. May the living water of Jesus Christ, the living water bursting from the rock, fill the lives of our saints. Give those who are thirsty to drink your living water. We pray in the name of Jesus, who is our living water. Amen.
