Title: Jesus, the Light of Life
Contents
Light not only dispels the darkness that dwells during the night, but it also has the amazing power to bring life and vitality to all things. The spiritual light that Jesus gives has the power to live a new life for us who eat and drink sin because we are caught up in our desires. All life before meeting Jesus is like a woman caught in adultery, living according to her lusts, eating and drinking according to her lusts, and living in darkness and lust. However, if you experience the light of truth and the light of life in Jesus, your sins and wanderings will be forgiven and you will be greeted with a new morning of life. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
First, today's text shows that all life is held in darkness.
All life is like being in darkness, bound by sin. Just as a person's eyesight cannot see things properly in darkness, when life is caught in the darkness of sin, it cannot see the truth properly. So, if the darkness of sin and desire is in our hearts, God's people lose the holy aspect of their lives. The woman caught in adultery was not only violating God's law, but knowing that she would be shamed and stoned to death, yet yielded to lust because her heart was held in darkness. Because the truth of God was not reflected in his heart and soul, and he did not realize the love of God, he lived his life as he wanted. If all of our lives do not experience the truth of God and do not receive the light of the truth, we have no choice but to live as slaves to our own desires and eat and drink our fallen nature. After all, the only way life can come out of darkness is to experience the light of God.
Second, Jesus came to give light to the world.
Light cannot coexist with darkness. When the light shines, the darkness naturally disappears. Jesus came to reveal the darkness of the world. John 1:4-5 “In him was life, and this life was the light of men. The light shined in the darkness, but the darkness did not understand it.” When we come before Jesus, things belonging to darkness disappear and the work of life takes place. The Pharisees and scribes viewed only the woman who committed adultery as a person who broke God's law, but Jesus revealed their sin by revealing the stubbornness and brazenness of sin hidden in the hearts of those who accused her. It has not been revealed or acted upon, but the same image of sin is at work in the hearts of all people. Jesus revealed this and revealed the realities of sin hidden within them. Ultimately, when we stand in front of the light of the truth of Jesus, the darkness of life is revealed. The world reveals to condemn, but Jesus reveals to repent and heal. No matter how long you have lived your life of faith, if you do not experience the light of truth and the light of life of Jesus, you cannot escape from the darkness.
Third, experiencing the light of life means believing, relying on, and following Jesus.
