Jesus to be worshiped
(2011.12.25. Christmas Sunday) (Matthew 2:1~11)
Christmas Sunday commemorates the day our Savior Jesus came into the world.
Jesus came into this world to glorify God and to give peace and love to God's children.
As we celebrate Christmas this year, I pray that you receive all the grace and blessings that our Lord Jesus gives us.
<Let's greet each other with blessings>- “Happy Christmas!!!!”
Christmas is not only a day when we receive many gifts from Jesus who came for us - but it is also a day when we truly give thanks and worship our Jesus.
* On Christmas Day, we say “Merry Christmas”, so I have to know the meaning and say this.
Merry (merry), Christ (Jesus), mas (festival) -. = In other words, it is a day to rejoice and celebrate the coming of Jesus.
However, the original meaning of -mas (festival)- was <worship> and <worship>.
Christmas Day - Today is the feast day to worship Jesus.
*Parents' birthday is a day when you should make your parents happy.- It's a day that you shouldn't be bothered by following your birthday. - Parents should not suffer and show off their children's faces on their parents' birthday.
*Children's first birthday party should be a day that makes children happy - It's a day when you shouldn't wear cumbersome hanbok, force a stoneman who doesn't know the meaning, and make you cry while sitting in a restaurant for hours. - The child is annoying, but mom and dad shouldn't be the only happy days.
Christmas is a day to commemorate the birth of Jesus. It should be a day to worship Jesus.
Since it is the feast of Jesus, I hope that you will become holy saints who fully worship Jesus.
1. Jesus is our King.
(2:2) - "Where is the one who was born king of the Jews? We saw his star from the east and came to worship him." - The wise men from the East were born on the day Jesus was born - To worship Jesus as king They were looking for the place where Jesus was born.
Today, we must truly serve Jesus as our King and offer it as a precious day to worship Jesus.
1) It is not a day to end with commotion.
(2:3) - “When King Herod and all Jerusalem heard it, they were in a commotion.” - All Jerusalem was in a commotion the day Jesus came. There was a commotion about the birth of a new king in Judea. But when they heard the news, they knew they would be uproar, but they didn't worship Jesus - it wasn't Christmas to them.
Even now, non-believers make Christmas even more chaotic - I know it's a day of commotion for merchants and a day of exchange of gifts between people - this is not the true Christmas mood.
2) Don't consider yourself a king.
In particular, Herod was very upset - because he was a king - and he did not want to acknowledge Jesus as king.
Even now, those who do not have Jesus as their king and want to become their own king are not true believers.
Even if you go to church - if you are someone who ignores Jesus' thoughts and lives according to your own thoughts, if you are a person who puts you first, not Jesus - From today's Christmas - I want you to change into a believer who confesses, “Jesus is King.
2. You must receive and believe in Jesus.
The people of Jerusalem who were only making a fuss when they heard the news that a king was born. Herod, who wanted to kill the king, saying that he would continue to reign only after a king was born, did not accept Jesus.
Then, would those who knew the Bible better than them and knew in advance that Jesus was to be born became true believers?
(2:4) - “The king gathered all the chief priests and the scribes of the people together and asked where the Christ was born.”
(2:5) - “They said, Bethlehem of Judea, as it is written by the prophets”
The high priests and scribes knew from early that Jesus would be born. I knew the prophet's prophecies very well. He even knew that he would be born in Bethlehem.
Then, since they already knew, did they go to Jesus and receive Him? - No - I'm done with knowing.
* To know is not faith, but to receive it to be a believer.
Dear saints - Even if you know that God created the world and that Jesus is the Savior - you are not a believer if you do not believe. - There is a saying that knowledge is not power, but action is power.
Knowing Jesus is not faith - Receiving Jesus is faith - I hope that you will receive Jesus as your King and become believers.
3. Let's do real worship.
The Bible wise men who knew from early on that Jesus would be born did not keep Christmas well.
It was not that the people of Jerusalem who were excited to know that Jesus was born and were in a commotion were not good at keeping Christmas.
They didn't know the prophecy, and they were not Jews - Gentiles from the East actually kept Christmas.
Today, we must imitate how the Gentiles in the East greeted Christmas and how they received Jesus.
1) Receive us with joy.
(2:9~10) - “As the wise men heard the king’s words, they were on their way, and the star they had seen in the east suddenly led them before them, and stood still over the place where the child was.
They rejoiced and rejoiced even before they saw Jesus who was born, and prepared to receive Jesus.
* After seeing the stars and following them, I saw the stars stop - I was finally convinced that this was the place where Jesus was. I was finally convinced that I could see Jesus - so I was filled with joy even before I met him.
Dear saints, every time you come to church - “Today is the day to meet Jesus” and “Today is also the day to meet God”- I pray that you will come into the church with a happy heart.
2) Let's worship with our whole body.
(2:11) - “When they entered the house, they saw the child and his mother Mary together, and fell down and worshiped the child.
*The high priests and scribes who knew that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem but did not go to worship were not real believers.
* After learning that Jesus would be born, Herod, who did not want to be recognized as king, tried to kill him. He was an evil unbeliever.
*The wise men who came from the East after seeing the stars were filled with joy from the moment they arrived in front of the house where Jesus was born.
* How was it when you went in and finally saw Jesus? - I fell down and worshiped. As soon as I saw it, I immediately worshiped.
Dear saints, we pray that you will become the saints who worship Jesus with joy and rejoice with thanksgiving that we have only received Jesus as our King and believe in Him, and worship Him humbly while exalting only Jesus.
3) Let's offer gifts with sincerity.
(2:11)-“…they opened the jewellery and offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh”- Rejoicing in their hearts, they bowed down and worshiped, and then they opened the treasure chest and offered precious gifts to the baby Jesus. .
* Whose is the precious and good thing? - You don't want to give away something precious and good.
*Then, don't you say that everything precious and good is mine?
*The best thing, the most precious thing - The act of offering to the Lord as a gift first - Isn't it an act of treating Jesus as a king? - Like the wise men of the East, “the most precious thing belongs to God”. “The most precious thing belongs to Jesus” - I pray that you will become precious saints who offer gifts.
*From today's precious Christmas - Rejoice in your heart that you have received Jesus as king, worship with your body, and give precious gifts - Please make Jesus happy - I pray that you will become believers who receive abundant love from Jesus.
