Title: Jesus Who David Said Lord
35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple, he answered and said to them, "Why do the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? 36 David, in the Spirit, said to himself, "The Lord said to my lord, "Take your enemies at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet." He said, “Sit down.” 37 David said, “The Christ is Lord. How can you be his descendants?” And the people listened with joy.
1. Words that begin
At one time, in Rome, the emperor was called a lord, and in China and Japan, the king was called a celestial ruler or emperor, and he made the absurd mistake of deifying him. These days, instead of humbly listening to the Word of God through the Bible, there are those who try to relativize the Lord Jesus by interpreting the Bible freely based on some religious studies, religious ideology, or religious philosophy. There is also a movement to blend or synthesize all religions. In fact, this movement is not new, it has been around for a very long time. The Bible is adamantly opposed to such claims, declaring that Jesus is the only Lord, who has existed from eternity.
2. The scribes' wrong view of the Messiah
When Jesus was teaching in the temple, why did the scribes, the leading scribes of the law religion, say that the Lord, the Christ, is the Son of David? The background to Jesus' teaching is found in Matthew 22:41-42. In other words, Jesus asked the Pharisees whose descendants the Christ was, and they answered that they were the children of David.
Among the Jews of that time, there was the following view of the Messiah, that is, an understanding of Christ. In the days of the Maccabees, when they resisted Roman colonial rule, expectations were high that the Messiah, a priest and king, would come from the Levites. In the Qumran community, a sect of Judaism, there was an expectation of two Messiahs, the Messiah as the priest and the Messiah as the King. However, the most important view of the Messiah among the Jews is the idea that the Messiah will appear from among the descendants of David and will politically establish the kingdom of David on earth, and that he will conquer and rule the world as well as independence by force.
The purpose of Jesus' critique of their Messianic view is, "Why do they only call Christ the Son of David?" that's what it is. In the end, Jesus Christ can be said to be a descendant of David in terms of human blood, but in a more fundamental way, Christ is more than David. That is, the Lord, or Christ, is not only a man, but also God. In other words, Jesus, who had just lovingly taught all the laws and prophets representative of Judaism, could make his hearers believe in Him, that is, any scribe or Pharisee, apart from a proper conception of the Lord (Christ). It is to realize that we cannot be saved. Ladies and gentlemen, the fact that all those who primarily believe in something other than Jesus - no matter how good they are of religion - will not be saved? ?Please know.
In Korea alone, there have been many cases where countless self-proclaimed, Taching, or Second Coming states appeared, but ended up in a whirlwind as the magic was revealed. Recently, there have been people who have been redeemed by attracting people while claiming to be the Lord of eternal life or the God of eternal life. I don't know why it's in English to doze off during the all-night interrogation while saying it's the Lord of Eternal Life. Whether or not to sleep in advance in order to live forever.
Ladies and gentlemen, no matter what plausible statements or theories are developed, please believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ only. No matter what happens while you believe in the Lord Jesus, please do not deviate from your words to the right or left. Then, Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, will solve all your problems.
3. Jesus' Criticism
Jesus quoted Psalm 110:1 to criticize the Jewish religious leaders who were paralyzed in spiritual understanding and spiritual perception, but only from a rational point of view that Christ is the Son of David. “David himself, moved by the Holy Spirit, said to his lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.’” This Psalm 110:1 is often quoted by Jesus as well as the New Testament writers, interpreted in the Messianic sense. That is, those words were fulfilled in Jesus, who overcame death, rose and ascended into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. In particular, that Jesus sat down at the right hand of God describes the position of the Lord Jesus between the ascension and the final fulfillment at the Second Coming.
In any case, what Jesus is interested in is, 'David said to the Lord, the Lord, to my lord, Adonai.' In other words, David was acknowledging the existence other than God that he would call his Lord (Adonai). It is also that Jehovah God made a magnificent promise to the Lord (Adonai), the mediator, from eternity to eternity, worthy of the existence of God alone, with superiority, power, and authority. The promise is that the Lord (Adonai) will overcome even death, the last enemy that no one can defeat, and be resurrected to rule over all things. Gentlemen, please believe that we who believe in the Lord Jesus, who abiding in the Lord Jesus, will enjoy eternal life by His grace.
In short, Jesus' criticism was that David said that the Christ is Lord, so why would the Lord be the son of David?
4. Jesus the Eternal Lord
When Jesus said that Christ could not be descended from the human David, of course, he did not mean that Christ was not of David's blood in the flesh. He is taking issue with the Jews who do not know Christ only in the flesh and cannot receive Christ Jesus who has come because they do not know them in a spiritual way. They are not the view of the Messiah as the second King David, who is an earthly, political, and military ruler, but the view of the Messiah as the Lord of all, who will be born of the blood of David in the flesh and resurrected in the spirit of holiness and reaffirmed as the Son of God with power is to have . Please believe and follow Jesus Christ, who is the only Sovereign of Heaven and the Lord who leads us to eternal life.
Unfortunately, however, many church members still believe and follow Jesus as a saint, the goal of personal cultivation. Paul's confession in 2 Corinthians 5:16, "Therefore we no longer know any man according to the flesh, although we have known Christ according to the flesh, but from now on we do not know him in this way."
When we worship or pray, we clearly call Jesus to be Lord, but in real life, there are many church members who are not sure whether Jesus is really the Lord. Our Lord Jesus loves us unchangingly yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever, but the content of our faith in Him is often very changeable. Some people forget the Lord because they think that when things go well and happy and joyful things happen, they do it because they are good, not the grace of the Lord. On the other hand, when things go awry, sad, and painful things happen, some people instead of believing in Jesus, who is the power of love, mainly accept their anguish and resentment. Beloved, when you are happy, you rejoice by having Jesus as your guest, and when you are unhappy, you are the Lord Jesus who overcame death and rose again ?Please take it and get it resolved.
5. Conclusion
What is the most important thing in our real life? What do we believe and follow, whether we know it or not? riches? authority? honor? line? emotion? Low self-esteem? Worry? In any case, although it varies from person to person, we should not let these things dominate us, whom the Lord Jesus bought with the blood, which cannot be changed by giving the world over. We earnestly pray that all of us will be filled with the Holy Spirit and live a life that believes and follows only Jesus as Lord.
