Title: Job's Dawn Sermon 2 (Heavenly Council)

Contents

Yulbuk Dawn Job 2 (Job 1:6-12) God's pride and Satan's temptation (Heavenly Council)

Up to the first verses 1-5 we see a scene in which the main character of the book of Job, a man named Job, is introduced about his piety. Ezekiel's evaluation of being righteous before God was in such a way that there was no doubt at all.

A meeting was held in heaven today over such a Job. This kind of heavenly story cannot be verified, but it is sometimes dealt with in the Bible (1 Kings 22). There, together with God, who is the only god, there are celestial beings. These celestial beings today translated as “sons of God” are translated “angels” in the Septuagint. Therefore, their existence cannot be confirmed with certainty, but it can be seen that, for example, they are like the servants of heaven, and they are like the angels we often speak of. Satan is also among those beings (commonly called the fallen angel Lucifer).

The content of today's text is that God is talking about this Satan and Job. Satan's role here is like a accuser (prosecutor-prosecutor). It looks like you're on a mission to travel around the world and report on something in the world (problems, etc.).

When God introduced Job to this Satan, he was proud of his piety. This is the proof that God trusts Job to that extent (there is not in the world, verse 8). However, Satan refutes this. Verse 9 is the verse that contains such doubts.

“How can Job fear God without cause?”

This means that his fear of God is not pure intention. It was that he had no choice but to do it because there was some kind of reward. What is that reward? It is a worldly blessing (many possessions) that he has received (verse 10).

Satan's words do not end here. If God took all of his possessions, he would curse God face to face. Is it really Satanic? Did his belief in human unbelief have led him to dare to oppose God? His words are not only unbelief in people, but also an absurd provocation (challenge) against God, who doubts the trust of God.

However, God is not angry with Satan's provocations like this, but he accepts the word as it is and allows Satan to test him as he doubts. This permission is amazing because it will put Job's godliness and God's honor to the test. right?

However, in the book of James (1:13), there is a saying that it is not that a person is tempted by God. God cannot be tempted by evil and He Himself does not tempt anyone.

If we look at it today, it is Satan who is testing Job directly. It means that God is not. However, it is said that God cannot be tempted by evil. If that is the case, then as an object of Satan's temptation today, I even mentioned God's honor, what does this mean? The bottom line is that it is already there. Because God is not the one who will be tempted, it means that all these things will eventually end due to Satan's limitations. Truly, God wants to see what Satan does. And on the other hand, God himself wants to be with people with a heart that is being tested. Are you surprised?

This same feeling is also contained in the last verse. verse 12

“The Lord said to Satan, “All that he has I put into your hand; but you shall not put your hand on his body.”

He gave Satan all the discretion to test Job, but he only limits him not to touch his body. Here, God permits temptation only as much as is capable of being tolerated by man (1 Corinthians 10:13) No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man; but God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. with the temptation also will make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it). This is how God cares for people.

How can we know all the will of God? But what is clear is that what we must prove to God through Satan's temptation is to show that we love God more than anything else in the world with our perfect faith. You have to repay that trust.

This may be the very test we face in this world we call the test bed. God wants us to endure this test, He wants us to love Him that way, and He trusts and trusts us like that. Through Job, we should find this very meaning. It means that we must pass the test of life that comes to all of us with faith like that. Did you understand?

I bless you in the name of the Lord that you can endure this test to the end and be victorious.
