Title: Job 1:1-12 Satan tempted Job

Job 1:1-12 Satan Tests Job Topic: 50. Temptation. 2012. 6. 3.

Introduction

: The background of the event to be unfolded (1-5) and the dialogue between God and Satan (6-12). Below is the result.

1. The background of the event. (1-5)

The introduction of Job is well presented in the text.

The place where Job lived is most likely somewhere in the northern part of the Arabian Desert.

1) Job's character. (One)

Job was a perfect, honest (1), very rich, (2~3), reconciled (4), and pious (5) ideal person.

① Integrity: It refers to the state of being morally free from blemishes.

② Honesty: This refers to a state in which the road is not bent or skewed to the left or right, such as when the road is straight and flat.

③ Reverence: It means a person who is conscious of God in everything and has a godly fear.

④ Turn from evil: Job who fears God cannot remain in evil, so Job turned away from evil.

2) Job's possession. (2~3)

Job is a family with ten children (7 sons and 3 women). (symbol of wealth)

Sheep (7,000), camels (3,000), cattle (500 yoke), donkeys (500)

Among the people of the East, he is the most wonderful person. (3)

Job was the most wealthy among the many wealthy people in northern Arabia, and he possessed outstanding wisdom among the many wise men there.

He was an outstanding person with

3) Job's family. (4)

Harmonious family: When the sons each have their own birthdays, they invite their brothers and sisters to gather together to confirm their love for each other.

It was a family where friendship was strong and harmonious sharing joyous fellowship.

4) Job's faith. (5)

After each feast, Job offered a sacrifice of holiness for his children.

* “Maybe my sons have sinned and have dishonored God in their hearts.”

* Be prepared for the possibility that your children may have neglected God for the joy of the feast, or inadvertently committed sins with a lax mind.

It was a burnt offering with the meaning of atonement and devotion to God.

This clearly shows that Job did not originate from internal sin or hypocritical faith.

2. A dialogue between God and Satan. (6-12)

The scene in heaven (6) is a dialogue between God and Satan. (7)

The origin of the disaster is God's praise for Job's godliness and righteousness, and Satan accuses him of accusing him of the material blessings given to him.

To test Job's godliness, we allow Satan to take possession of Job's possessions.

1) Satan stands before God. (6-7)

It begins one day with the appearance of Satan in the heavenly meeting between God and the sons of God. (6)

* Sons of God refer to the heavenly hosts, and as spirit creatures created by God, obey God absolutely and

They are beings who obey and obey His will.

Standing before the Lord can be seen as reporting on the mission entrusted to them.

* Satan was also present here.

* Satan was originally the archangel of God, but as a fallen being, he is an 'adversary' and 'accuser'.

* After the Fall, Satan was cast out of heaven (Rev 12:9), but he was finally judged and thrown into the lake of fire of brimstone.

Until (Rev. 20:10), it is not possible to seize the power of the air and act as the ‘god of this world’ according to God’s sovereign providence.

(2 Corinthians 4:4) However, Satan's activities are always under God's control.

Dialogue between God and Satan. (7)

* God's question: “Where are you from?”

* Satan’s answer: “I have traveled all over the earth and here and there”

Satan wandered around to find the reluctance to accuse believers.

Satan actually provokes David, who was after God's heart, to sin (1 Chronicles 21:1).

Also, they tried to slander Jesus' chief disciple, Peter, to blaspheme the Lord (Matthew 16:22).

2) Satan's slander and accusation against Job. (8-11)

He acknowledged and boasted about Job's pious faith that was not false toward Satan. (8)

The Word of God, which introduces Job as an example of godly faith, is a ruler of public authority and is believed to rule the world.

It will be a powerful challenge to Satan.

Satan raises questions about God's positive evaluation of Job. (9)

“How can Job fear God without cause?”

* The objection raised by Satan is a fundamental denial of God's recognition of Job.

* Job's motive was material blessings, so his faith was by no means pure.

* Satan is accusing God of not being pure of Job's piety according to his evil attributes.

Satan boldly suggests testing Job's godliness. (11)

“Are you sure you will not curse at the Lord?”

* If material blessings are gone, Job will abandon his faith and betray God.

3) God permits Satan's temptation on Job. (12)

“I put all his possessions into your hands”

He gives his possessions into Satan's hands.

“You shall not put your hand on his body” Job has no authority whatsoever that Satan can do.

Why did you give permission to strike Job's property?

① That Satan's accusations are nothing but baseless slander. In other words, true godliness is to fear God in all circumstances.

You want to prove it.

② Use Satan's tricks as an instrument of God's sovereign providence so that Job can reach a more mature position of faith.

it was meant to do
