Title: John 8:4 - Teacher

Contents

Said to Jesus, Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery.

and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

1. What God Does

Nicodemus, who acknowledged Jesus as a teacher, but recognized Jesus as a teacher who came from God only by seeing the works of signs, realized the limits of the law. Cursed are all those who are of the works of the law, for it is written, Cursed is anyone who does not always do all the things that are written in the book of the law. In the end, Nicodemus realized that both Nicodemus, who was a Pharisee and a ruler, and his fellow Pharisees, all belong to the law, and must be under a curse unless they always do all things as written in the law. But Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. Just as it is written, Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree, Nicodemus realized that Jesus broke the curse of the law by hanging on a tree, so he brought about a hundred pounds of a mixture of myrrh and aloes needed for Jesus' body. .

He who acknowledges Jesus as his teacher realizes that he has no more to teach from himself. Knowing that only Jesus can be a teacher, only those who receive instruction from Jesus. At the time of Jesus, there were scribes and Pharisees, but they only liked to be called rabbis, but they didn't actually act like rabbis. As rabbis, they must first receive instruction from God and preach what they have been taught, but they were forced to distance themselves from God because they taught it as a lesson using the commandments of men. Jesus didn't do that. Jesus taught only as he was told. Jesus said that the Father gave us the words the Father gave him. We said that when we received this, we really believed that Jesus came from the Father.

(1) He said to Jesus, “Teacher,

While Jesus was coming to the temple in the morning to teach the people, the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery and set her in the middle. The scribes and Pharisees called Jesus their teacher, but in reality they did not recognize him as a teacher, but only called him ceremonly. If the scribes and Pharisees had acknowledged Jesus as their teacher, they would have heard what Jesus preached with the people when he was teaching. However, the scribes and Pharisees did not seek to be taught by Jesus, but rather were the ones who obstructed His teaching. Not only did they come at the time Jesus was going to teach, but by setting up an adulterous woman in the middle of the teaching place, they tried to distract the people from focusing on Jesus and make them focus on the adulterous woman or themselves.

The scribes and Pharisees who came to Jesus did not come to Jesus to repent of their sins. When I came to Jesus to condemn others, I was just calling Jesus, saying, "Teacher." The scribes and Pharisees constantly condemned others. The reason that the scribes and Pharisees did not stop their habit of condemnation was that they did not want to be taught by Jesus. This is because they did not accept the teachings even though they had been taught directly, or even if they had received evaluations through third parties. That's why he was busy constantly condemning. Jesus never condemned anyone. When Jesus said to the scribes and Pharisees that they were hypocrites, he did not condemn Jesus, but to make them understand. If Jesus had tried to condemn, there would have been no more opportunity for the scribes and Pharisees, but if he judged to make them understand, it was for repentance.

(2) Teacher, the woman was caught in adultery.

Jesus knows the adultery of not only this woman, but also everyone in the world. Jesus knows all the sins of the scribes and Pharisees who brought her to condemn this woman. Even so, Jesus did not want a sacrifice, but a person who wanted mercy. Jesus did not come to this world to call the righteous, but sinners. Those who came to call sinners but claim that they are not sinners do not need Jesus any more. Because Jesus is useful to the sick and useless to the healthy.

The scribes and Pharisees, who did not want to admit that Jesus was a teacher, were triumphant with what they had brought from the woman caught in adultery. This is because many saw it as a golden opportunity to firmly block them from following Jesus and being taught by Jesus. But our scribes and Pharisees did not realize that Jesus was sent into this world as the only Teacher. Because they did not understand the extent of the teachings of Jesus, they tried to arrest the woman who was in adultery and have a battle with her. At the very least, if you know the other person and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles in the world, but the scribes and Pharisees did not even realize this. The scribes and Pharisees did not know about Jesus, but they did not know too much. These were those who did not know that Jesus did not simply perform signs, but only testified to the word that came from the Father.

2. The heart of God

He wants to be someone who acknowledges Jesus as his teacher.

God wants His people to recognize Jesus as their teacher. If you acknowledge Jesus as your teacher, above all else, He wants you to become a listener of His words. He wants everyone to be the first to hear the word so that they can focus only on the words of Jesus, not on themselves or their actions. The scribes and Pharisees called Jesus their teacher, but they did not recognize Jesus as their teacher. If we had recognized Jesus as our teacher, we would not have had time to catch the adulterous woman from the scene. Those who acknowledge Jesus as their teacher are the ones who hear the word. Those who are taught by the Word and live by the Word.

Matthew 12:38 “At that time some of the scribes and Pharisees said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a sign.”

Some of the scribes and Pharisees among those who came to Jesus said, "Teacher, we want you to show us a sign." Jesus answered, An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign, but there is no sign to be seen except the sign of the prophet Jonah. It was not that the time had not come for Jesus to perform the sign, or that he had already used up all his power to perform the sign, or that he did not perform the sign because he was too energetic to perform the sign. Jesus was able to perform signs at any time. Nevertheless, he did not perform any signs because in order to serve Jesus as a teacher, he had to be taught by the words that Jesus told him.

3. Who God is

You are the one who sent Jesus as a teacher.

God has sent His Son, Jesus, to this world as the one and only Teacher. He is the one who made us look only at Jesus, who is the sign.

4. Traces of Jesus (Confession and Sharing)

(1) The blood of Jesus - Failure to acknowledge Jesus as a teacher

(2) The life of Jesus - Recognizing Jesus as a teacher and choosing to listen only to His words

5. Prayer

Calling Jesus as your teacher

They did not listen to the words of Jesus, the teacher,

What made me focus on my thoughts and actions

forgive me

No more looking for a target

Help me to focus only on Jesus, who is the target.

From evil and adulterous to good and spiritual

Help me to become a master of the deep things of God.
