Title: Jonah's Prayer

Contents

I don't even speak

Bible Verse: Jonah 2:1-10

Date: 2010. 3. 14.

Subject: God's Plan

The LORD had already prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah, so Jonah was in the fish's belly for three days and three nights.

1 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, saying, "I called to the LORD because of my affliction." You answered me, and I cried out from the belly of Sheol, and you heard my voice. Because I was cast in the midst of the sea, great waters surrounded me, and all your waves and great waves overflowed over me. I said, Though I have been cast out of your sight, I will look again to your temple. Waters surround me, but even the soul. The depths have enveloped me, and the grass of the sea has covered my head. I have descended to the roots of the mountains, and the earth has kept me with its bars for a long time. O LORD my God, you rescued my life from the pit. Then I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, and came to your temple. Anyone who worships falsehood and vain has forsaken his favor, but I will sacrifice to you with a voice of thanksgiving, and I will pay my vows to you. Salvation is from the LORD.”

10. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah on dry land.

-. God's Plan (Provide)

To meet the great wind

1) It was to become a monument of God's mercy.

People who were looking for the god they believed in

Seeking the Lord God Fearing, offering sacrifices and making vows.

Although it was the city of Nineveh where wickedness was rampant, God's mercy extends even to Nineveh, the capital of the Gentile nation.

By preparing great fish

2) To become a successful preacher in Nineveh.

3) It was to type Christ. That is, he was buried and then rose again according to the scriptures (1 Corinthians 5:14). Because it is written, 'As Jonah was in the belly of a great fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the earth' (Matt 12:40). Was Jonah's tomb an unfamiliar one, a new one? So was the tomb of Christ. That is, his tomb was a tomb where no one had ever been buried before. Was Jonah there three days and three nights? So was Christ. This was to both rise again and proclaim repentance to the Gentile world.

- It's just prayer.

It is difficult to pray

(1) When he prayed (verses 1 and 2): (At that time) Jonah prayed and said, That is, when he was in trouble, he prayed with a guilty conscience. When God miraculously raised the hope of salvation, he prayed.

When you can't do anything with your own strength

You must give up everything and pray.

(2) The place where he prayed: in the belly of the fish. No place is unsuitable for prayer. Wherever God throws us, we can see the way open to heaven. Those who have Christ in their hearts by faith carry the altar with them wherever they go. The altar sanctifies the offering, and it itself becomes a living temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

People may keep us from communing with one another, but they will not keep us from communing with God. Jonah has now fallen to the bottom of the sea, but in the depths he is crying out to God.

(3) To whom he prayed: to the LORD his God. He had previously fled from God, but now he realizes his folly and is turning to him.

Many people aboard the ship had cried out to their respective gods.

Prayer of Mount Carmel; Elijah vs Baal and Asherashin

content of prayer

- Pray in the midst of suffering

Jon 2:3 = Psalm 42:7 At the sound of your waterfalls the deep sea calls to one another; Your waves and waves cover me.

Suffering that cannot be endured by one's own strength and ability

Even the prophets of God can suffer like this.

If we forsake the will of God, no one will suffer unavoidable suffering.

Of course, there are hardships that you face while trying to keep your faith.

Many forefathers of faith were killed, imprisoned, and beaten while witnessing the gospel.

- Redirection (repentance) ; I will look to your temple

I think of my situation and situation, and I pray while thinking of the hardships I am experiencing

Repentance comes out of nowhere.

Repentance for sins.

Sin (Hamaltia) - miss the mark. turn in the wrong direction

no matter how great a sin one has committed; He exhorts others to draw near to God (v. 8). Whoever worships falsehood and vanity has forsaken the favor bestowed upon him. Those who worship other gods in the hope of salvation and comfort, as did the foreign sailors, 'forsaken the grace bestowed upon them'. That is, they are the ones who turn their backs on their own blessings. Also, like Jonah, who tried to run away to Tarshish 'fleeing the face of the Lord', those who follow their thoughts have also forsaken 'the grace that was bestowed upon them', that is, the grace that they would receive only if they approached God and performed their duties properly.

- Gratitude: After thinking of yourself and repenting of your sins, thanksgiving can only come naturally.

Thank you for the grace the Lord has bestowed upon you. Thank you for being alive today.

Thank you for all the waves and fish you have prepared for yourself

So when we pray, we pray as if we have received an answer. If Jehovah is our God, he will be our resurrection and life, and he will redeem our lives from destruction, that is, from the power of the grave.

Whether it happens or not, it's all in the hands of God.

- New vision (commitment) ; Jonah promises to speak of Jehovah's mercy with a sacrifice of thanksgiving. This is to glorify Jehovah and encourage others at the same time.

He will surely glorify God by fulfilling his vows. Perhaps his vow was that if God saved him, he would be willing to go wherever God wants to go, even in Nineveh.

We believe that salvation comes only from God and we have a new vision.

Psalm 3:8 Salvation belongs to the LORD; bring your blessing upon your people (Selah).

Isaiah 43:11 I, I am the LORD, and there is no savior but me.

10. And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah on dry land.

Jonah's release from prison and deliverance from death can be regarded as an example of God's mercy toward a poor penitent who prays in agony. God had mercy on him and he will never contend with him. He solves life's difficulties

His release seems to be a type and symbol of Christ's resurrection. He died and was buried to calm the storm of our sins. And, like Jonah, he became a prisoner for our debt and was in the tomb three days and three nights. But he came out of the grave on the third day to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins widely, even to the Gentiles.
