Verse: Genesis 47:11-12
Every year, when we celebrate Father's Day, we are told to be filial. This year has been designated as the Year of the Family by the United Nations (UN). The family was organized by God in Eden. The home is a very important place as the foundation of society and the nation. And the home must be sacred. As a home, the home is like a nursery. When a family goes right or wrong, good or bad luck depends on it.
1) The foundation of a family that can be filial
A family is a place where blood is connected, and it is a community of love between parents, wives and children, and married couples. A family is established by the union of a couple. It was not good for Adam to live alone, so when God created Eve, he took Adam's rib and made him his wife. Adam said to his wife that this is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. You can see the unity of the couple from these words. For the sake of a married life, a wife is to submit to her husband, and a husband is to love his wife as his own body. The relationship between parents and children is also commanded to honor parents in the Lord. Parents are told not to antagonize their children and nurture them with instruction and admonition (Ephesians 6:1-2). A large building can only be stacked high when the foundation is strong. The foundation of filial piety is the right filial piety starting from the word of God.
2) Basic functions of the home
When a machine breaks down, it cannot function as a machine. A machine must have power to operate. Each household has its own function. A community united by trust and affection must be willing to help each other. Selfish thoughts should not prevail in the home.
One of the conditions of marriage for women these days is that they do not have parents-in-law.
A scholar named Urie Bronfen brenner describes the breakdown of three basic functions.
(1) Biologically, “a family is the best place to conceive, create, and nurture children. They receive physical care and receive the material help they need until they build a new family on their own. They get help, but they point out that this doesn't work.
(2) Psychologically, “home is the most appropriate place to learn the language of parents, learn what it is to be human, learn how to live with neighbors in society, what are cultural values, and how to receive them It's the best place to learn what to do."
(3) Sociologically speaking, “family is the best place to learn what marriage is, what family life is, and what kind of family you should have. Since these functions are broken, they must be restored.
3) Joseph filial piety
From a young age, Joseph was well educated by his parents and a life of faith from his ancestors. He is a person who has been well trained in the truth of faith and character. He inherited the faith of his ancestors and was well educated by his parents. Even when he was sold to Egypt because of the secret of his dreams and the plotting of his brothers from an early age, he was able to interpret amazing dreams, so he became the prime minister of that country through King Pharaoh. When he met the famine of Canaan, he led his family to Egypt, and Jacob blessed King Pharaoh, his family could live comfortably, and according to his will, he buried his father in Canaan. By adding preservatives through 40 days and performing songs for 70 days, we have done our filial piety. Joseph's filial piety was filial piety from his life to his death.
