Title: Joy and Thanksgiving/Philippians 1:3-5
Content: Joy and thanksgiving (Philippians 2)
Philippians 1:3-5
3 I give thanks to my God whenever I think of you.
4 Whenever I make supplications, I always pray for all of you with joy,
5 Because of your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.
Who believes in God the most? Each person has different standards.
A person who lives truthfully -
A person who is zealous for relief and service -
A person with extensive knowledge of the Bible - Pharisee
A man of prayer and power -
A person who has done many good things -
We usually evaluate things that look like this.
But what is more important is whether there is joy and gratitude in it.
No matter how precious you are, if you don't have joy and gratitude, it's in vain.
Even if you do a lot of service - Complaining and serving
Even with dedication - a person who kills people
A person full of knowledge without works
Even if you pray well - a person who has no change in life
Therefore, if there is no joy and gratitude, it can only be in vain.
Joy - Christians should rejoice.
What is that joy?
Not worldly joy, but spiritual joy.
It is not the joy that comes from acquiring material things, but the joy that comes from having spiritual possessions.
I hope that you will become saints who are full of spiritual joy that comes from heaven, not through comedy and entertainment (blessed are you when you smile, Sunday, Sunday night, sizzling ...).
May the joy that comes from realizing the secrets of heaven, the joy that comes from receiving answers to prayer, the joy that comes from devotion, and the joy of Eden that comes from communion with God.
But what are we rejoicing about today?
I got a good job, got a promotion, went to college, got a job - I'm looking for the joy of this land.
I hope that the members of Jugok Church will find spiritual joy. I hope that you will become a saint full of spiritual joy.
Verse 3 “I give thanks to my God whenever I think of you.”
Paul says he is grateful when he thinks of the Philippians.
I am grateful every time I think of them because of their beautiful faith. There are people who are offended and offended every time I think of them, and there are people who are grateful and grateful every time I think of them. Every time you think about it, I want you to be a grateful, grateful and pleasant person.
We should be grateful every time we think.
Think and thank have the same etymology. Therefore, the words are derived from the same meaning. The foundation of gratitude is memory. When you think and realize, there is joy and gratitude. If I don't realize how much grace I am receiving, I have no gratitude.
When a person gets older and learns to look back on the days gone by, thank their parents.
It is said that as we get older, we grow older, because we look back and be grateful.
Those who have forgotten all the grace they received in the past cannot give thanks before God.
However, believers suffer from amnesia the longer they practice their faith.
That is, we forget the grace and love of God.
Therefore, the saints who restore their first love, and those who remember their first love.
A person's life is taken care of by others from birth to death.
When flying - get help from doctors and midwives (those not related to me)
Living - an opportunity to learn
things of consciousness
When dying - eventually salt, burial by others.
A life that is indebted to a lifetime.
you should be thankful
When I went to the military - There was a time when I had a silent prayer of thanks before a meal.
Remembering and Gratitude - The hard work of the farmer, the hard work of the parents
A saint who remembers and gives thanks how much spiritual guidance and blessings overflow within us.
Because Jesus died on the cross for us.
Thank you for choosing us to save us.
Thank you for your health so that I can go to church.
Thanks for being born in the south and not in the north of the Korean Peninsula.
What about those without faith?
Every time I think about it - a mass of resentment and complaints
A lot of resentment, regret, and heartbreak.
Every time I think about it, a killer, an enemy,
Every time I think about it, resentment and complaining
I can't sleep, I'm deceived and ruined my body
Example) Spring water in Mexico. (The Word 95.2. P.243)
If you go to a province in Mexico, it is said that there are springs with hot and cold water.
So the women gather at the fountain to do the laundry, and they say it can't be that good.
is.
I found the mysterious spring that I had visited in that region.
The traveler said to the woman who was washing clothes at the fountain.
'How good are you to have such a good laundry?'
Then the woman
'Yes, good or bad. But it's a pity that the laundry soap didn't come out.'
A woman who is immersed in regrets rather than gratitude.
Isn't that what we are?
A saint who is overflowing with gratitude in all things, remembering God's guidance and blessing in us.
We thank God every time we think of our children
I thank God whenever I think of our church
We thank God every time we think of our family
I thank God for my salvation
Verse 4 “Praying with joy” means praying with joy.
Prayer = Thinking with tears.
There are people who just pray and complain and complain.
Prayer obviously requires tears. repentance, mourning, weeping tears
The publican's mourning prayer A prayer that weeps, beats the breast, and scatters ashes.
But if you are a good believer, everything is different.
Every time I think about it, I overflow with gratitude, and every time I pray, I ask with joy.
Originally, the Greek word 'kara' meaning 'thank you' and the Greek word 'eucharistia' meaning 'joy' are derived from the same etymology.
'Pray with joy' means 'pray with thanksgiving'.
What is prayer? refers to communion with God.
This is the most spiritual time to meet God, and this is the time when thanksgiving takes place.
it's time Therefore, it is natural that this prayer of meeting with God should be done with joy. The prayer of joy is the most powerful prayer. Paul experienced this very fact.
He sang praises when he was unfairly beaten to death in the Philippian prison in Philippi. Praise of joy and gratitude. Perhaps, just as Stephen rejoiced in martyrdom, Paul must have been thankful and rejoicing that a poor sinner could die for the Lord.
But an amazing miracle happened. A miracle happened when the prison door was opened.
The Philippians knew what it was to pray with joy.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 could tell us.
'Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in everything' - God's will.
'God's will, God's will,' but Paul is telling us about God's will. Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, and rejoice always. God wants us to always rejoice.
Why? Because God has given us many things. The heart of the giver always wants the receiver to be happy.
Ex) The story of when we were married - fresh kimchi.
we pray to God
God would you do this? Shall I say no?
God Shall I marry this person? Shall I say no?
God, will you go to this university? Shall I say no?
We cry out and pray as if we were seeking God's will. But, isn't there some ups and downs in it that I wish for my work to go well?
Don't you have the heart to take care of my practicality by using God's name as an excuse?
What God wants from us is to rejoice, to pray, and to give thanks. Paul says, "I thank God every time I think and rejoice every time I pray."
However, gratitude and joy must have concrete content and reality.
When you give a prayer of thanks to God, there must be specific contents of the prayer.
You have to be happy and say what makes you happy.
When we pray, we say 'thank you' to God. We say 'I'm happy', but we see that our life lacks joy and gratitude, or that we don't. Thank you when you pray. rejoice. But life is always irritating and full of complaints, dissatisfaction and resentment.
Why? It was because he habitually offered prayers of joy and thanks.
This is because we do not specifically pray about what we are grateful for or what we are delighted with.
Our prayers should always be specific.
thank
pleasure
dedication
example)
There was an old woman who had a husband who drank and got drunk every night.
Every time she saw her husband every day, she only complained, complained, and cussed.
"I think of you as an enemy, not a husband."
One day, like any other day, she waits for her husband, and when her husband returns, the new
I remembered. So the woman prayed to God like this.
'God, no matter how much I think about it, there is nothing to be thankful for, but I am thankful and happy anyway.'
However, the Holy Spirit worked fervently on him, and specific things to be thankful for came to mind.
But 'Isn't it better than a widow?' Of course, the widow is God's most concerned, caring, and concerned.
'I'm so tired of drinking, isn't that the joy of coming home properly even if I'm drunk? Isn't that the only way to go to church on a Sunday and give me an offering because I'm sorry?
The woman gave thanks to God and was filled with joy.
When the husband woke up from being thirsty while sleeping, he asked his wife for water, and when it was the same as before, he sweared at him and said, “How about you have a broken wrist?” The husband said that his wife was weird - maybe he was crazy, was he out of his mind?
When I asked the reason, he told me about everything and specifically thanked him and thanked him.
Then my husband smiled and said, "I'll go to church tomorrow too."
Of course, after that, the number of days when I was drunk like that decreased.
When we pray, we pray that there will be many conditions of thanksgiving.
But more mature prayer can see the many conditions of gratitude already granted.
You should pray for permission to open your eyes.
Paul specifically says thank you every time he thinks of you.
Paul's prayer of thanksgiving - giving thanks through the grace given
thank you for seeing others
Paul is now in prison. He rejoices not because he has been released from prison, but because of the beautiful faith of the Philippians. Because of faith and fellowship. It is overflowing with gratitude and joy when I think of the fellowship of the saints who kept their faith well in the midst of tribulation and persecution, and even sent some consolation money to them.
The happiest thing for a pastor is
that the saints bought a good house
getting a good job
to rise to a high place
getting rich.
----- I rejoice the most in beautiful faith.
Because God is most pleased with it.
Verse 5 The reason why Paul prays with thanksgiving and joy when he thinks of the Philippians
Because of the textbook of faith
Textbook of Paul and the Philippian Church (koinonia)
Textbooks are not just about fellowship.
This textbook refers to 'missionary'. spiritual teaching material
It is referring to the Philippian church that helped Paul's ministry.
The Philippi church has been a missionary church from the beginning to the present.
He made many donations to the Thessalonian and Corinthian churches.
He also gave prayers and financial support for Paul in prison.
In other words, the Philippian church was a church that was devoted to missionary work. clergy and churches
The church I was teaching was the Philippi church.
Paul had a church he could always appeal to and to whom he could lean.
It was because of good missionary cooperation that Paul was able to undertake the missionary work so well.
It is said that about 10 million won can be used without payment.
When it is necessary for missionary work, it pays without meeting with church officers.
There are beautiful textbooks. there is cooperation.
Today, the church has grown fat, but missionary work is lacking.
Today, Jugok Church must become a missionary church.
The church that the Lord is truly pleased with in this age is a missionary church.
Saints who are full of joy and thanks, Saints who pray with joy and thanks, Saints who give thanks every time they think, Saints who materialize joy and thanks every day, Saints who teach missions because of joy and thanks, Saints who give joy and thanks to the Lord every day , church.
