Title/ Joy from the conception of baby Jesus
Text/ Luke 1:39-45
Two things Mary learned from the angel: that she would conceive a baby and become the mother of Jesus, and that Elizabeth, who was said to be barren, was already six months pregnant.
So Mary goes to see Elizabeth.
Women in similar circumstances will meet each other to share the grace they have received from God.
Through this meeting, the three rejoice.
Elizabeth, John the Baptist in Elizabeth's womb, and Mary rejoice with each other. Christmas is a day to share the joy of the birth of the baby Jesus.
Hymn 115 “I am glad that the Savior has come, welcome all peoples”
1, Elisabeth's hymn of joy verses 41-42
“Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, called with a loud voice, saying,”
If we look at the praise of a person filled with the Holy Spirit, three characteristics are revealed.
First, sing out loud.
Moved by the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth knew that the word of God had come to Mary even before she could hear her.
Second/ We sing spiritual praises.
Verse 42 “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb.
Third, humble yourself and be polite.
Verse 43, “What is this that the mother of my lord comes to me?”
According to the record in 1:7, Elizabeth is a superior, but she humbles herself and humbly calls Mary “the mother of the Lord” and the child in her womb “my lord.”
2, John the Baptist, who jumped with joy from the womb, verses 41, 44
John the Baptist, who heard the sound of Jesus' conception in his womb and leaped with joy in his womb, verse 44
This John the Baptist rejoiced greatly because of Jesus during his earthly ministry.
(John 3:29) “He who takes the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend who stands and hears the bridegroom’s voice rejoices greatly, and I was filled with such joy.”
What makes us happy? Were you tired of life and lost your true joy? I hope you will rediscover the existence of Jesus this Christmas and restore new joy.
3, Mary's praise for overcoming her situation and rejoicing Verses 46-48
“My soul praises you, and my heart rejoices in God my Savior.”
In a way, among the three people today, one of the most unhappy people in human interpretation would be “Mary”.
(Matthew 1:23) “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Regardless of his will, he gave birth to a son in a virgin body and borrowed from him an absurd situation that he could not even give him a name, even though he was the child he gave birth to.
But all things are by the grace of God (Luke 1:28). Accept everything and praise it with joy.
May this Christmas be filled with great joy to the saints who are “rejoiced on earth” (Luke 2:14).
