Title: Joy of the Saints

Contents Bible text: Revelation 18:11-20 Title: The joy of the saints

Revelation 18:11-20. 11 The merchants of the earth weep and mourn for him,

For no one buys their wares again. 12 The commodities are gold, silver, precious stones, pearls, linen,

Purple cloth, silk, and red cloth, various kinds of incense wood, and all kinds of ivory vessels.

All kinds of vessels of precious wood, of copper, of iron, and of marble, 13 cinnamon, and spices, and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and olive oil,

All the delicious things and the shiny things are gone, so people

I will never see them again. 15 The merchants of these commodities, rich by Babylon,

For fear of his pain, he stood afar off, weeping and mourning, 16 saying, “Woe to you, great city!

They were clothed in linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, 17 and such wealth was destroyed in an hour.

The sailors and those who worked on the sea stood afar off, 18 and when they saw the smoke burning, they cried out, "Where is a city like this great city?"

Woe to this great city, all who sail on the sea

20 "Rejoice over him, you heavens and saints, apostles and prophets, you were rich in your precious goods."

for God has made him judgment for you.”

* The text is based on Ezekiel 27, the mourning of the wicked and

The joy of the saints is introduced alternately.

Why?

1. Lamentations of the wicked for loss of wealth (11-19)

2. The joy of the saints is because God has vindicated them. (20)

* Paul said: “If in Christ our only hope is in the life of this world,

Of all men, we will be the most pitiful.” (1 Corinthians 15:19) * Let’s live a life of praising God who helps our saints every day.

Psalm 121:1-8. 1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from 2 My help is from the LORD, who made the heavens and the earth 3 The LORD will not cause you to stumble.

The one who keeps you will not sleep. 4 The one who keeps Israel will neither sleep nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper, and the Lord is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun by day will not hurt you, nor will the night The moon of the Lord will not harm you. 7 The LORD will keep you from all trouble, and he will guard your soul. 8 The LORD will guard your coming and going from now on to everlasting.
