Judah and Tamar
Genesis 38 1-30
As the story of Joseph unfolds, suddenly in chapter 38, the story of Judah, the fourth of Jacob's 12 sons, appears. However, it is a shameful content that is not beautiful.
However, it is God's message of redemption that shows the fulfillment of God's grace and promise in these contents.
(1) Even if you are born as one of God's twelve tribes, even if you are a child of God's promise, if you leave the faith community and leave the Word of God, God's wrath and suffering will come.
(2) Even if we humans make mistakes due to our weakness, lack of faith, and unbelief, God does not give up.
see verse 1
Judas, the fourth of Jacob's 12 sons, makes a mistake. In fact, Judah was Joseph; It played a decisive role in being sold to Egypt. And to cover up that fact, he falsely reports to his father.
Father Jacob is grieving over food and drink. As time passed, Judas regretted his actions.
I am suffering. Even among the brothers, they must have had a hard time and uncomfortable feelings about selling Joseph for 20 pieces of silver, and it must have been difficult to see each other face to face.
Unable to endure any longer, Judas leaves the family. Look at verse 1.
Dear saints,
In the church life and the religious life, there are problems like this and that. It would be nice if the church could be completely heavenly, but there is no perfect place while on earth. There are envy and jealousy, there are scandals, and there are events that the world has not seen. But the important thing is not to leave the community.
I think it's wise to leave, but I see you all regret it later.
We must eat the word of God to live. Christians are to listen to God's promises and live.
If you leave the community because you don't like it, say you don't like it, or you say you don't like it, you end up in crisis just like Judas.
In verses 2-5, the crisis of Judah is well recorded.
Judas' crucial mistake was his marriage to a Gentile. It's because they left the community.
By this, Judas will not become a source of suffering and independence. When living with a stranger, it is common for people to be drawn to the culture, customs, and customs of that woman. Therefore, this is the reason why we urge the believer to marry the believer when we marry.
This is because, in the era of division, the spiritual blessing of a family is determined by the marriage with which a woman is married.
It is because if you marry a foreign woman, you do not go to the word of God, but live according to the worldly way.
Look at verses 6-7.
Judah has sons Er, Onan, and Shelah. The son gets married and has a wife named Tamar, and in verse 7 God kills the son. The reason is that they have done evil in the sight of God.
The concept of evil that we see is different from the evil that God sees. If you were in a faith community, you would have listened to your parents' lessons, and you would not have married a foreign woman.
He was wicked enough to kill God. Why is the family falling apart like this?
This is because Judas educated his children in a worldly way in an environment without God. This is the tragedy of Judah.
