Title: Judas Iscariot/John 13:21-
The text is about the most tragic Judas Iscariot in the Bible.
1. Basic understanding of Judas Iscariot
(1) Iscariot In Judah, [Cacariot] refers to the region of Kerioth (Cerioth), which is in the southern part of Judah.
(2) He took charge of the work of repentance.
John 13:29 Judas was in charge of the money box.
(3) He was also a person who exercised his powers.
Matthew 10:1 Jesus called the twelve disciples and gave them power to cast out unclean spirits and to heal every disease and infirmity.
Matthew 10:2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: Simon who is called Peter, Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Matthew 10:3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector, James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddeus,
Matthew 10:4 Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot sold Jesus.
(4) However, he was a person who fell into the temptation of money.
① He looked at the work of accounting with the trust of Jesus Christ, and was among the 12 disciples, but he became one who fell into the temptation of material things.
***When Mary anointed Jesus with perfume, she said,
John 12:6 I am not saying this for the sake of the poor, but because he is a thief and is in charge of the money box and steals what is put there.
***Now that Judas had the heart to sell Jesus Christ.
John 13:2 The devil had already put in the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, the idea of selling Jesus
Nevertheless, by warning and loving Judas Iscariot, Jesus tries to convert him.
2. Jesus' warning in the text
(1) One of you will betray me.
John 13:21 When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit and testified, saying, Truly I
Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.
① While eating after washing the disciples’ feet, Jesus said to his disciples, “One of you will betray me.”
②This reminds us of Psalm 41:9.
Psalm 41:9 My close friend who ate my bread, in whom I trusted, also lifted his heel against me.
③ Through this, Jesus is revealing the sinful desire in Judas Iscariot's heart and giving him an opportunity to repent.
(2) He is the one who gives me a piece of it.
John 13:26 Jesus answered, "I cut a piece, and he is the one who gives it."
Immediately he cut a piece and gave him Judas the son of Simon Iscariot.
① The disciples were confused by Jesus’ words, so they doubted each other and murmured.
John 13:22 The disciples looked at each other and doubted whom he was talking about.
②At this time, following the Jewish eating custom, Peter signaled to John, who was leaning on Jesus’ bosom, to ask Jesus.
John 13:24 Simon Peter beckoned and said, "Tell me who it is that has spoken."
③Then John asked Jesus, and Jesus said, “He is the one I cut out a piece and give it to.”
He dipped bread for Judas Iscariot.
④ In fact, in the Near East, it was a sign of great favor, respect, and love for the owner of a meal to distribute food.
⑤ Through this kindness, Jesus was hoping that the wicked heart of Judas Iscariot would be warned and repented.
(3) Do what you are doing quickly.
John 13:27 Immediately after receiving the piece, Satan entered into it, and Jesus said to Judas, “What you are doing, do quickly.”
① Despite Jesus’ kindness and love, Judas Iscariot did not come to repentance, but was captured by Satan.
②Now, Judas Iscariot is gradually moving away from the path of repentance.
③ Finally, Jesus said, [Do what you are doing quickly].
Theologians have different opinions on this, but Calvin said,
[So far, Jesus has tried in various ways to turn Judas Iscariot, but all of them are in vain. Now treat him as perishing, and say, 'Destroy, for you are determined to perish'.
you do.]

④Jesus is still giving warnings to Judas Iscariot in front of him and giving him an opportunity to repent.
***But Judas Iscariot disappeared into the darkness of the night.
John describes the night like this:
John 11:10 If he walks at night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.
Now is the time of darkness.
Luke 22:53 ... Now is your hour, and the power of darkness.
3. Judas' End
(1) He sold Jesus Christ to the chief priests for 30 pieces of silver, the price of one slave at the time.
Matthew 26:14 Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said,
Matthew 26:15 How much do you want me to give Jesus over to you? And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.
①He sold his Master and the Messiah.
(2) Handing over Jesus Christ
Matthew 26:47 While He was speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and a great crowd, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people, was with him with swords and clubs.
Matthew 26:48 The one who betrayed Jesus made a command to them and said, “He is the one I kissed.
I told him to take him.
Matthew 26:49 Immediately he came to Jesus and kissed him, saying, “Hello, Rabbi.”
Matthew 26:50 Jesus said to him, Friend, do what you have come to do. So they came and laid hands on Jesus and held him.
① Judas handed over his master by kissing him falsely.
(3) In the end, there was no choice but to commit suicide.
① Regret
Matthew 27:3 When Judas, who had betrayed Jesus, when he saw that he was condemned, repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
Matthew 27:4 He said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood."
② Suicide
Matthew 27:5 Judas... hung himself and died.
Acts 1:18 Afterward, his body collapsed and his stomach burst open, and all his intestines came out.
***conclusion
1. Take advantage of the opportunity for repentance.
2. Regret and suicide are not solutions to problems.
3. The solution to problems is to come to Jesus Christ and repent.
Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
