Title: Judas Missed an Opportunity
Matthew 27:3-5 ‘3. Then Judas, who had betrayed Jesus, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought the thirty pieces of silver back to the chief priests and elders. 4. They said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." They said, "What does that have to do with us?" 5. Judas threw the silver into the sanctuary, and went back and hanged himself to death.' - Amen.
It is easy for us to understand that the cause of Judas' suicide was primarily the sin of betraying Jesus. Then, are the other apostles or us better than Judas and are we saved? I would say it is not. he is the Lord
Matthew 26:24 Those of us who heard the words, "...it would have been better for me if he had not been born" were also sad people.
Predestination, he could explain his existence theologically, such as that he was a forsaken being or that he did not have the Holy Spirit. We want to focus on what we might realize when we see his death and abandonment.
1. Judas Iscariot missed the opportunity to repent
Not only Judas, but all of us are sinners, and we always live with the possibility of sinning. It is simply to be patient and to live in grace and sin less.
For example, in contrast to the case of Judas in the text, in Matthew 26:69- and below, we see Peter denying Jesus, but he curses for fear of his life and humbly betrays him in order to survive. It remains to be seen which would be the greater sin, but there is no significant difference in their attitude toward betraying Jesus.
Speaking of sin, he would not be able to curse Judas too much.
Judas, when Jesus said that one of you will betray me (Matthew 26:21), and when he broke the bread, he gave it to him (Matthew 26:23; John 13:26), but he did not repent.
Ecclesiastes 9:11 “…for seasons and opportunities come upon them all.”
Revelation 2:21 “And I gave him opportunity to repent…” (Hebrews 12:7)
In the text Matthew 27:3, Judas reflected, saying, "... At that time Judas, who betrayed Jesus, when he saw that he was condemned, repented of himself... and said, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood..."
This very moment was the last chance, and in general, it is also the moment when everyone primarily repents and is saved. There is a saying, “Where there is risk, there is opportunity, and where there is opportunity, there is danger”. Opportunities can be those moments when you feel the danger from within, not from the outside.
It is a superstition to say that we believe without noticing or feeling the opportunity for reflection. We should be able to get an opportunity for self-reflection.
2. Missing an Opportunity to Believe
The biggest mistake of Judas Iscariot is that he believes in Jesus, the savior, in the moment of setbacks and the disappointment of life. When the moment of despair came for Judas, his conscience couldn't help him and he chose to commit suicide.
In life, anyone can make mistakes and sin. God gave His Only Begotten Son as a substitute for original sin and self-crime. This is the core truth of Christian salvation. It is to be saved by faith.
