Title: Judge Jair/Judges 10:3-5
There is a saying that health must be protected when healthy, and peace must be protected when there is peace.
In the days of Judge Jair, we can see that Israel was at peace. The sons of Jair ride on a donkey. In the Bible, a colt symbolizes humility and peace. So when Jesus entered Jerusalem, he rode on a donkey. The Gospel of Matthew wrote about this, saying, “Say to the daughter of Zion, Your king is coming to you, humble and riding on a donkey, that is, on a yoke.”
These words of the Gospel of Matthew speak of the fulfillment of the words of Zechariah 9:9, which says, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, your King is coming to you, and He is righteous and brings salvation. And he was humble and rode on a donkey, the foal of a donkey, a donkey.”
But the Israelites cannot keep this peace. Looking at verse 6 after today's text, after the death of the judge Jair, the Israelites worshiped idols. Look at verse 6. “They worshiped the gods of Baals, Ashtaroth, and Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines.” They worshiped idols of all kinds.
When talking about idols, the Bible uses the plural of 'Baals' and 'Arab gods'. They are all kinds of miscellaneous gods. There is only one God about it.
A battle between one God and several idols, but God always wins. Elijah defeated 850 idolatrous prophets on Mount Carmel.
The Israelites had peace in the days of Jair. Also, looking at today's text, we can see that it is economically stable. While enjoying peace and stability, I thanked God for giving me this, and instead of saying, ‘I have to serve God better,’ I relaxed as much as I could. I forgot God. ‘This peace is from God. We forgot the fact that if we betray God, this peace will be destroyed.”
Our country is now enjoying nearly half a century of peace. The armistice was signed on July 27, 1953, so this year is exactly 49 years. In the meantime, there have been clashes such as the January 21st incident, the Uljin Samcheok Confederate infiltration incident, and the recent battle in the West Sea, but we have not had a major war. Those with knowledge of history say that our country has been frequently invaded and plagued by wars, but there are not many cases where there has been no war in half a century.
We must keep this peace well. We should do our best to serve God well, saying, “This peace is from God.”
The same is true for personal peace, family peace, and church peace. When you are at peace, you must serve God well and keep it well.
Many of the judges were good fighters. But, it seems that Dola, who looked at me yesterday, was a person of high virtue. He settles down the people's hearts that have been devastated by Abimelech's tyranny and battles between his people.
It seems that Yail, who is examining today, was rich. He had 30 cities. As mentioned earlier, it seems that Israel enjoyed economic stability at this time.
God calls and uses people who need it when it is needed.
When you need someone who can fight well, you call someone who is good at fighting, when you need a person of high virtue, you call a person of high virtue, and when you need someone who can afford it, you call a person who can afford it.
He also called people who were lacking. When a left-handed person was needed, he called for left-handed Ehud and used it. The writing of Ehud as left-handed in the Bible means that left-handed people were considered disabled at that time.
He called Deborah from among the women who were not at the forefront of society at that time and made him judge.
As the son of a prostitute, Jephthah, which we will look at tomorrow, was in a situation where he was thrown out of his house. He had been kicked out of the house and hung out with thugs.
Samson was a man with complicated relationships with women. He had a wife and had a relationship with a gisaeng in the house. Later, it will be ruined because of Delilah.
Yesterday, during the day, I saw an education expert giving a lecture on TV. When I was young, my father made me read a book explaining the Bible, and I learned many things while reading that book. Among them, while reading Samson's story, it is said that he learned to say, 'Ah, you shouldn't approach this woman recklessly!' He said, 'This is the book my father told me to read.' He said that if he held up old books and made his children read many good books, he would learn lessons for life like he did.
God called these people when they needed them.
In our social life, we say, ‘God called me to this place because I needed it. You have to work hard, saying, ‘God made me do this job because I needed it.’ Those who do so are successful. Yesterday, an article was published in the newspaper introducing a blacksmith who is hard at work making hammers, sickles, and things like this while sitting in front of a fire kiln in the heat. don't fall behind In terms of touching iron, it’s just like me and me.” If you work with such pride, you will succeed.
Especially in the church, ‘God gave me this position because I needed it. God gave me this job because I needed it.” You have to do your best.
Deacons, priests, and elders are called duties, and teachers, chieftains, choir members, and mission leaders are called duties. ‘The church gave me this position because I needed it. God gave me this job because I needed it.” Please work hard.
I pray in the name of the Lord that you will become all of you who work hard while confessing that you are keeping peace when you are at peace, and that you entrusted it to God because you need it.
