Title: Judgment on the Jews/Romans 2

Judgment against the Jews

Romans 2

1. God's Fairness (1-11)

① The wrong self-understanding of Jews

The standard of value for the Jews toward humans was the law and circumcision. Therefore, Gentiles who had nothing to do with the law and circumcision were despised, ridiculed, and treated like animals. Paul criticized the Jews' false values and declared that they were sinning just like the Gentiles, and that they would not escape God's judgment at the end of the world.

② God's will for the Jews

God's mercy, forgiveness, and long-suffering toward Israel is what He truly wants them to repent and return to.

③ God's Judgment Principle

Judgment is universal. The same applies to Jews as well as Gentiles.

2. God's judgment according to deeds (12-16)

① Jewish law

The Jews had a law. Through the law, we know God's will and have the privilege of discerning good and evil, so if we break the law, we will be condemned by the law. Those who do not do the will of God expressed in the law are no different from the Gentiles who do not have the law. It is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in the sight of God, but the doers of the law are righteous.

② Law of strangers

The Gentiles were given the law of conscience. The Gentiles are governed by laws written in their hearts. Although they do not have a law by which they can know the will of God, in them the basic requirements of the law are in the human mind. To the Gentiles, the function of conscience is the same as that of the law. Therefore, Gentiles are judged by their works just like Jews.

③ Judgment based on actions

Judgment according to deeds applies to everyone. All humans are bound to be judged.

3. Violation of Jewish Law (17-24)

① The Jews and the Law

As for the law, they are privileged.

② Violation of the law

The pride of possessing the law is great, but it denounces the sinful contradiction of not practicing it at all.

4. Circumcision that does not justify humans (25-29)

① Observance of the Law and Circumcision

Circumcision is a symbol of the noble covenant. Circumcision without the law is of no use.

② The true qualifications of the Jews

To be a true Jew, you must boldly renounce legalism and be an inner Jew and circumcision of your heart.
