Keeper of Prayer (2): Hope (Psalm 42:1-10)
Humans are spiritual beings.
No matter how well the physical conditions are satisfied, they have spiritual questions. Every human being has a spiritual thirst.
At the beginning of Psalm 42, it says, “Masgil of the sons of Korah, a song sung by a warrant. Our God is a God who gives us hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
1. When do we experience discouragement in our lives?
(1) It is a time when human limitations are encountered.
(2) When expectations are broken.
⑶ It is when we are tied to the past.
⑷ All human beings are discouraged. Even the children of God are discouraged. But there is one difference. It is that the saints seek God because of their discouragement (verse 1).
2. Who is thirsty?
(1) Those who seek the living God (verses 2-3, 9-10). The ridicule from the Gentiles, "Where is your God?" made me even more troubled and discouraged.
(2) He is a man who lived a life of faith (verse 4) Those who do nothing and make no progress have little thirst.
3. We must seek the God of hope.
(1) We must look to God's total power (verses 5, 11), and we must put our hope in God. It can be seen that the cause of this poet's discouragement is that he is looking at himself.
(2) We must remember the Lord (verse 6). We must be able to remember God even in the present situation (verse 7).
⑶ Praise and pray (verse 8).
How should the saints live?
Believers must always live with spiritual thirst. No matter what happens to us, we must seek the living God. We must put our hope in God, remember the Lord's love and covenant, sing praises, and pray.
