Bible Text: 2 Chronicles 15:1-15 Title: King Asa's Decision
1. Prophecy of the prophet Azariah
1) The Spirit of God has come
When King Asa returned from a great victory over the invaders of Cush, the god of God
It came to Azariah, son of Oded. Azariah was an unknown prophet in the book of Kings.
Its name is not mentioned at all. He let the Spirit of God come upon him
Immediately the prophecy was delivered. God spoke the word of prophecy through the prophet
He testifies, but he who bears witness to the word does not testify voluntarily.
We must preach what we have received from God.
a. The Spirit of God came (2 Chronicles 15:1) b. To Jahaziel the Levite (2 Chronicles 20:14)
2) Azariah's prophecy
Azariah, whom God received from God, was met with Asa whether he returned after winning the battle.
Prophecy was proclaimed. The first thing he prophesied is that if you are with the LORD,
It is a prophecy that the Lord will be with you. It is faith and belief
It is a prophecy pointing to fruit. The second prophecy is that if you seek me
It's about meeting you. This means that God is sovereign in all things.
It means to admit it. The last prophecy is that if you forsake me, I will
It means that I will forsake you. a. Azariah meets Asa (2 Chronicles 15:2)
b. David's invitation to Solomon (1 Chronicles 28:9)
3) Encouraging King Asa
In order to instruct King Asa, Azariah went through the unfortunate past without God.
I tell you to think. The time when God did not exist was close to Rehoboam and
It is the age of Abijah, and it can refer to the days of the judges and slavery in Egypt as far away as possible.
During this time, Israel had no strength and had to go through difficult and unhappy days.
And I asked them to remember a time when there was no priest.
Then he encouraged them to 'make them strong' and 'do not let their hands become weak'.
He was calling for continuity of reform.
2. Asa's Second Reformation
1) Don't settle for reality
After hearing the word of God from the prophet Azariah, King Asa immediately embarked on the Second Reformation. By the time the Second Reformation began, Judah was largely stable domestically and internationally.
Usually, when people are at peace, they are content with reality and tend to settle for themselves.
However, King Asa boldly carried out the reformation that was God's will.
He does not use the time of peace as an opportunity for pleasure or compromise with iniquity;
I sincerely sought and sought Jehovah. Even in the early church, the church enjoyed peace
It was said that it was built strong and the number of saints increased (cf. Acts 9:31).
Recognizing that those who are complacent with reality can no longer pursue reforms
King Asa continued to promote reforms.
2) Thorough reform
King Asa's second Reformation was to uproot the last remaining idolatry.
Although he destroyed many idols in the first reformation earlier, the people still
They were serving idols. This is because idolatry is deeply rooted in the lives of the people.
It shows that it was falling. Those who become Christians live a holy life overnight.
You do not live a life of holiness, but gradually you live a holy life.
King Asa recognized this, in order to completely get rid of idolatry that had not yet been eliminated.
The second reform was initiated. So the idols that remained until then were removed from Judah.
Thoroughly removed. If you leave any sins behind, the seeds of sin will grow again.
Therefore, the roots must be removed before the shoots grow.
Asa's reforms removed the idols that were prevalent among the people of Israel.
He led the people to return to God. a. Obedience better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22)
b. Elimination of detestable things (2 Chronicles 15:8) 3) Asa's correct reformation
Asa's Second Reformation did not stop at the thorough destruction of idols.
Even rebuilding the altar of Jehovah. Real reform is the right goal
It is clear that King Asa set the goals of the reforms right.
In other words, not only will the people of Judah turn from their sins,
is to bring it back. To achieve this goal, King Asa destroyed idols and
At the same time, to teach the people the true faith that replaces idols.
He built the altar of Jehovah. a. He is with us when we keep the commandments (John 14:23)
b. The Lord's Promise (Matthew 28:20)
1) Judas found peace
Idolatry, which began in the last days of Solomon, devastated all of Judah.
This desolate land became a land of peace thanks to Asa's revival of faith.
The success of Asa's Reformation and the way Judah was able to find peace was that the land
Because it was good in the sight of God.
The writer of Chronicles tells how Judah found peace, because they sought the Lord.
It is described that the Lord also became our acquaintance and gave peace on all sides.
a. God in control of history (2 Chronicles 14:7)
b. What is the result of the decision? The Lord gives you peace on all sides (2 Chronicles 15:15)
2) dethroned the mother
King Asa deposed his mother, Empress Maacah, and led the Reformation.
I was trying to achieve. King Asa's mother, Maacah, made Asherah's abomination of poles.
was an idolater. Zealous for reform, Asa killed his idolatrous mother.
It shouldn't have been left alone. So not only dethroned her, but
The idol was cut down, ground and burned by the Kidron brook.
Acceptance of others with tolerance and understanding in all things
It is truly a beautiful act. But when it comes to evil,
We must not allow even the slightest concession.
The Seed of Evil is so fertile that it quickly spreads everywhere.
So Asa deposed Maacah, the idolatrous mother, and
He removed all the idols with which he was involved.
a. Abolished the womb and removed idols (2 Chronicles 15:16) b. David followed the Lord completely (1 Kings 11:6).
