Title: King of the Jews/Matthew 2
Matthew describes the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus Christ as the Gospel, from his own point of view, taking into account Jewish readers.
1 “King of the Jews” (1-6)
Matthew here pointed out to Jewish readers the fact that the baby Jesus was born as the “King of the Jews” and described it. He pointed out the fact that the baby Jesus had come as the long-awaited Messiah of Israel, the Shepherd of Israel, and the King of the Jews. The prophet Isaiah foretold this fact long ago. “A child is born, and a son is given him, and his name shall be called the Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Later, after Pilate ordered Jesus to be crucified, he placed the inscription “King of the Jews” on the cross. Jesus came as the ‘King of the Jews’. But Jesus did not come only as the ‘King of the Jews’. Jesus came as both the 'King of the wise men' and the 'King of the Gentiles', and above all, he came as "King of kings and Lord of lords" (Rev 19:16). The king is the ruler who rules over us. It is the duty and duty of the people to have the king as king.
2 “Get down and worship the child” (7-12)
Matthew also pointed to the fact that the infant Jesus was born to be worshiped by both Jews and Gentiles. The Jew Herod falsely testified that he would worship the One who had come as King of the Jews, and the wise men actually bowed down and worshiped the child and Mary his mother, opened the jewels, and poured out gold, frankincense, and myrrh (suitable for the King and God and the One who was to die). gift) was given as a gift. True worship, like the Magi, like Mary Bethany, is worship on the knees and offering the treasure. Jesus came to be worshiped by all creation and those who have been saved. “The women went out and took hold of his feet and worshiped” (Matthew 28:9). “The eleven saw Jesus and worshiped him” (Matthew 28:17). “They worshiped him and returned with great joy” (Luke 24:52). “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, both in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (Philippians 2:10). “The four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb… worshiped” (Rev 5:8,14). Herod (different from Herod of Matthew 2) was devoured by worms while he was about to be worshiped (Acts 12:23). Worship is the proper duty and duty of the saints.
3 “Nazarenes” (13-23)
