Title: Knowledge is power, learn to live!
Knowledge is power, learn to live!
Text/ Deuteronomy 6:4-9
1. Introduction
According to Shim Hoon’s Evergreen Tree (a novel serialized in the Dong-A Ilbo in 1935), when the Japanese Empire abolished the rural enlightenment school opened by Chae Young-shin and Dong-hyeok at Cheongseokgol Church and prevented children from going to school, Chae Young-shin took classes in an empty church hall. There is a scene where the children climb a mulberry tree outside the church and receive lessons. At that time, Chae Young-shin shrugged with a sad heart and cried, “Knowledge is power. If you do, all the children will follow with their voices bursting with their black eyes. “Knowledge is power, learn to live! ..." Called. Endlessly, endlessly, endlessly...
In 2009, almost 80 years after that time, our members who are living today are in a completely different situation from that time, saying, “Knowledge is power, you must learn to live!” I think you need to listen carefully. What do you mean? This is because our society in 2009 has transformed into a knowledge information society with an average lifespan of 100 years and the development of the Internet-IT industry, and continuing education is becoming more common. Just as the people of Korean society 80 years ago had no choice but to live in the dark due to ignorance, we are living in an era in which there is a very high possibility that we will live in darkness from the age of 50 if we do not study happily for the rest of our lives (Eduentertainment=Education+Entertainment). )” means that Therefore, in the coming weeks, we will be focusing on “(1) What is study in the general sense? (2) The joy of studying (3) Eusaenggong = the best study in our life” We are going to share grace while meditating on the theme.
2. Shema, Israel (Hear, O Israel)!
The Bible constantly emphasizes study-learning-children's education. Jews who obeyed these words (the people of the book - the people studying - the people with a high zeal for education - the Jews who account for only 0.2% of the world's population of 6 billion people account for 30% of the Nobel Prize) are recognized worldwide for their excellence. The following is a list of representative verses.
*I chose Abraham because he wanted to teach his children and descendants well so that they obey me and do what is right and right. If his descendants do as Abraham taught them, I will do all that I promised Abraham (Genesis 18:19) *Shema Israel (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) *My son, listen to your father's instruction, and your mother's instructions. Do not depart from the law (the whole of Proverbs says to study diligently, especially Proverbs 1:1-9)
*How sweet are your words, sweeter than honey in my mouth (Psalm 119:103) *Therefore, let us know the Lord, let us strive to know the Lord (Hosea 6:3) *Isaiah 40:6-8 *2 Timothy 3:14-17 *Hebrews 4:12-13 ...etc.
3. What is study (learning) in a general sense?
first.工夫 (study), which means study in Korean, means “kung fu,” or martial arts, in Chinese. Originally, the word "studying" meant that a person concentrated on something and worked hard with all his heart and soul to practice, refine, and train. Korean language such as writing study, sound study, mind study, and ten-year study reveals the true meaning of study. However, the term “study” was mainly used by the Neo-Confucian scholars of the Song Dynasty to cultivate the study of Confucianism, and the scholars of Joseon accepted it as it was and became “study = study of the Confucian scriptures”. I think it did.
However, from an etymological point of view, the word 工夫 (study) is not just a Confucian study or school class, but study in all fields such as 士農工商 (Sanong Gongsang)-art-sports-modern service industry-religion. Therefore, study is the whole process that each person strives to achieve the highest achievement in his field until death (see: The Joy of Studying, Wisdom House, 162).
second. In the myth of Dangun in Samguk Yusa, “When a bear and a tiger wished to become humans, Hwanung (Hwanung) gave them mugwort and garlic and told them to dedicate themselves to 100 days in a burrow. Ungnyeo wished to have a child, so Hwanung turned into a human for a while and married Ungnyeo and gave birth to Dangun Wanggum.”
In Carlo Golodi's Adventures of Pinocchio, “Pinocchio, a wooden doll made by Grandpa Geppetto, hates school so much that he skips school and plays with bad friends (the process is an adventure). But in the end, Pinocchio changed his mind and stayed up all night to study reading and writing, and he became a real person.”
What is the point of these two stories? A person must study to become a real person. It means that if you do not study (learning), you cannot function as a real person.
third. All studies in this world (Sanong Commerce-Arts-Sports-Service Industry-Religion, etc.) There are no obstacles, there are no obstacles in metaphysical theory and reason, there are no obstacles in theory and reality, and ultimately there is no obstacle in all things). It's getting through (相卽相入 融通无涯 - flexible inability to enter and exit).
