Title: Lamb of God
Contents
The apostle John gives great evidence of John the Baptist. 1. Jesus Christ is the “Lamb of God.”
The “Lamb of God” is, as the prophet Isaiah said, “Like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and a sheep that is silent before its shearers” (Isaiah 53: ; Acts 8:32). It reminds me of meekness and humility, but there is more to it than that.
1) Jesus is the one who takes away the sins of the world.
In Genesis 22, when Abraham's only son Isaac was about to die, God prepared His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice on the cross, just like the sheep that God prepared for Isaac.
2) “Lamb of God” has the meaning of sacrifice.
It is like the Lamb that was burned with fire every morning and evening in the temple of God to have a harmonious relationship with God and the people.
3) “Lamb of God” means the Passover Lamb.
Jesus became “the Passover Lamb of God” and gave life to Israel by giving his life for God in the wrath of God.
4) “The Lamb of God” is like the Azazel goat.
The Lord who suffered the punishment of sin in the lonely wilderness, carrying the burden of sin alone, is called the “Lamb of God.” John the Baptist is referring to the very Lamb, “Jesus Christ.”
5) The way of Jesus the Lamb was the way of suffering on the cross.
The way of Jesus was not the way to be applauded and welcomed. It was a lonely road, a path of suffering that had to endure all kinds of contempt, ridicule, and abandonment.
2. Jesus Christ is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
What does the baptism of the Holy Spirit mean?
The baptism of the Holy Spirit refers to the work of the Holy Spirit that regenerates people and fills them with the fullness of Christ to testify to the character and person of Jesus Christ and all the work He has done.
In other words, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the ability to put off our old self and make our outward man into the inner man.
3. Jesus Christ is the ‘Son of God’.
The name “Son of God” has an important meaning.
It means that God the Father is pleased with the Son Jesus (Matthew 3:17).
Jesus is “the Son of God,” bringing joy to the heart of God the Father.
Today you are adopted by God in Jesus Christ. So, are you pleasing God? With what are you pleasing God? What are you glorifying God with?
The joy of God is that the Word of God lives in us. Complete obedience to God's will is the only joy we can give to God.
You, Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God, shed His blood to give us new life. And by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he made us go from the outward man toward the perfection of the inward man. Now, let us follow the path of the Lamb Jesus Christ toward the completion of that salvation.
Let us assume the glory of John the Baptist.
On the day of glory, the day when Jesus Christ comes again, we pray that we will live a life without shame as we sing the hymn of the joy of salvation.
