Title: Law, Love, and Man
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death, for what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God does. For he sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin, condemning sin in the flesh, that the requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-4
The law is a good tool for understanding to live a righteous life
The law without love is a weapon, and it must be acted entirely with the love of the Lord.
Wherever people live, there are always laws. Whether it is a common law passed down by word of mouth or a written written law, there must be a law to lubricate human relationships. The law is an important element of society that prevents the strong from engaging in violence at will and enables the weak to live in peace. Therefore, the law must exist inevitably in the society in which people live.
1. The First Law Received by Israel After Exodus
When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and entered the wilderness after the Exodus, God called Moses to Mount Sinai to fast for 40 weeks and 40 nights, and then wrote the Ten Commandments on stone tablets. It was with that law that he allowed the community of Israel to be run. The law of Moses is so difficult to keep in our mind that it is easy to think, ‘Did God give it to torment and bind us?’ But in fact it is not. The law is what God has given us to be obeyed in order to bless and prosper. Therefore, you must know that where there is obedience to the law, God's blessing must be behind it. The problem is a misunderstanding of this law.
2. The relationship between law and man
3. The Law with God and the Law Without God
The Bible says, “Even though they may speak in human tongues and angels, if they do not have love, they become sounding copper and chirping chimes. Without love, nothing means anything. Because God is love. God did not give the law to idolize the law, but to serve people well and make them happy.
1 John 4:8 says, “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” A person who does not love God no matter how thorough the law is and performs ceremonies, does not know God. Because God is love in itself. God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to this earth to be crucified and die for our sins for us, who have no choice but to be destroyed because of our sins and cannot pay off our sins in our own strength. In this way, God's love is a love that has been proven and experienced. God wants to save us. Therefore, God does not break a bruised reed, nor does he extinguish a burning lamp. Even if there is no hope in human eyes, God is trying to save them to the end. He works hard to build up even a bruised reed, and he helps even a dying lamp to be lit until the end. In this way, God is love. Therefore, even if we cannot see God with our own eyes, if we see where there is love, we can know that God is there.
4. The Law and Human Relationships Shown by Jesus
In John 1:17 it is written, “The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” Moses taught the law so that we could live in order, and Jesus, by grace, paid for all our sins. Therefore, through the grace of Christ, our sins are cleansed and we receive the Holy Spirit as a gift so that we can live righteously by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the complete fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:10 says, “Love does no evil to its neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” Love is what makes us prosper by fulfilling all the laws. The true meaning of the law is not to condemn and judge, but to convict and repent of sin so that we may be saved. It is not the true purpose of the law to condemn, judge, and cast out by the law.
Therefore, a law without love is itself an idol. The law is inherently good and good. But if love is not the content, it becomes a weapon. The same sword becomes a weapon of death when a soldier is holding it, but when a chef holds it, it becomes a tool for making delicious dishes, and when a doctor holds a knife in his hand, it becomes a knife that saves the patient by surgery. Likewise, even the same sword has different meanings depending on the purpose it is used for. So is the law. The law is also an instrument of condemnation, judgment, and death if used without the love of Christ. Therefore, we Christians should always use the law in the light of the love of Jesus. The law without the love of Jesus is neither faith nor religion. God does not want a law without love. The law was given to us to find out the wounds and heal them with love. I pray in the name of the Lord that we all become children of the Holy Lord who practice faith with love.
