Title: Live like a saint
Exodus (82) Live like a saint
(Exodus 28:1-43)
< High Priest's Vestments >
Exodus 28 lists the robes and robe that the six high priests must have. Let's look at them one by one in the order they wear them.
1. Banpo underwear
Banpo underwear was the basic garment worn by the high priest as the innermost garment, and was woven with fine white linen (verse 39).
2. Outerwear of the ephod base
The outer garments for the ephod are the blue garments worn after the half-cloth undergarments (verse 31). Golden wool and pomegranates were attached to the edge of the robe (verses 33-34). So whenever the high priest moved, the bells struck and made a sound, and when the priest entered and left the sanctuary, he escaped death by that sound (verse 35). Also, the sound of the bell prevented the high priest from sneaking around, and he had to always act in public. Golden wool symbolizes the word of faith, and pomegranate symbolizes the scent. As such, the high priest had to speak the word of faith and live a fragrant life.
3. The ephod
The ephod is a garment worn over the shoulders over the robe that rests on the ephod. The ephod was made of finely woven yarn of gold, blue, purple and scarlet, and finely braided linen (verse 6). The gold thread was made by thinning gold, and the high priest's clothes were so splendid. The ephod had two shoulder rests, and two onyx stones were attached to it, and the names of the 12 sons of Israel were engraved on each of them in the order in which they were born (verses 7-14). These names represent all of God's people. In other words, the high priest is the one who has all the saints on his shoulders.
4. Breastplate of Judgment
The breastplate of judgment was worn on the chest of the high priest and had 12 jewels in four rows, three on each row (verses 17-20). 2The names of the 12 tribes of Israel are engraved on each of the jewels. Therefore, there is a symbolic meaning that the high priest embraces the 12 tribes. Also, the Urim and Thummim were placed in the breastplate of judgment (verse 30). Urim means 'strong light' in the revenge of light, and Thummim means 'completeness'. This means that God's judgment is the most accurate and complete.
5. The sash over the ephod
The straps on top of the ephod were made in the same way as weaving the ephod, and they held the ephod firmly. When we think of the girdle that Jesus wore around his waist when he washed the feet of his disciples, the girdle symbolizes the labor and service of the high priest.
6. Headpiece
The coffin was made of white linen, as thin as a half-clothed undergarment (verse 39). Then, they made a plaque out of pure gold and engraved the words “Holiness to the Lord” on the plate, and attached the plate to the white coffin with blue cords (verses 36-38). This symbolizes the need for the high priest to be sanctified. Also, the priests had to wear underpants to cover the lower body from the waist to the thigh (verse 42). It also symbolizes sanctification.
< The reason why the high priest's clothes were made beautiful >
The high priest's garments were made holy, glorified, and beautiful (verse 2). If the price of the clothes of the high priest at that time were taken into account, they would cost more than any other garment ever worn by humans. Why was he told to make the clothes of the high priest so glorified and beautiful?
1. for the high priest himself
If the High Priest wears worthy and glorified clothing, he will behave more like a High Priest in the slightest bit. A person's behavior changes a lot depending on the clothes they wear. A person who acts like a gentleman when wearing a men's suit will pee anywhere and behave like a fool if he puts on the reserve uniform. So, you have to be careful about your clothes. Also, like clothes, make your face bright and happy. You should not fall into the supremacy of appearance, but sincerity and diligence to make your appearance beautiful is one of the good attitudes to lead the beauty of the heart.
2. For the people of that time
When the high priest wore glorified and worthy clothing, the people would have more respect for him whenever they saw him. You need that kind of respect too. Some say that pastors don't like luxury, so pastors will respect them only when they ride a Tico. However, no matter how good a thought is, if it is too much, it can only be insufficient. Some people like that their pastor rides a Tico, but there are many who feel bad about it. Pastors should strive to humble themselves, and members should strive to elevate their pastors.
3. For all the saints
Virtually all saints are priests. That is why we must have clean conduct like white cloth underwear, full of vitality like a blue ephod robe, pray to God with the burden of our brothers on our shoulders like an ephod, and hear the bells of the gospel from our feet wherever we go. Like the breastplate, you must have love and mercy in your heart, wear the belt of service and labor around your waist, and attach the inscription 'Holiness to the Lord' on your head, so you must always live a consecrated life. Become blessed spirits who have the beautiful spiritual clothes that are like saints and prepare for greater blessings.
