Text Ephesians 5:15-21
Title: Live wisely
We can only live once in this world. If we live foolishly, our lives become meaningless. How you live on this earth is also related to your eternal life. That is why the Bible tells us not to be fools, but to live wisely. “Therefore, be careful how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise” (verse 15).
The text tells us not to live life haphazardly, but to be careful and live wisely. Why? Because your life and me are so precious.
How do we live wisely?
I. It saves time.
To live wisely, you need to save time. “Save the time, for the times are evil” (verse 16). The word ‘save’ means to make the most of the opportunities and time given to us, just as we save money when buying things.
Why should we save time? Because the times are evil. Because the world we live in is a dangerous and evil world where we can waste our time carelessly. The meaning of our lives is linked to eternity. How long I lived for eternity matters. But this world is an evil world that prevents us from investing time for eternity, and makes us invest only for this earth.
Satan is still taking our time away from our spiritual interests and making us invest in the pleasures of this world and the material world.
To live wisely is not to waste time, but to save it and spend it on eternal things.
II. It is understanding God's will.
To live wisely is to live by understanding the will of God. “Therefore do not be fools, but what is the will of the Lord” (verse 17).
Diligence, devotion, and sincerity are important in the life of faith, but there is one thing that must be preceded. In order to live wisely, we must discern and do the will of God. Otherwise, everything you have worked hard for will be foolish. “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father. And have I not done many mighty works in your name?” Then I will say to them plainly, “I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:21-23).
Do you want to understand God's will? Before you do anything, listen to the Word of God and do it. Before doing anything, ask God first.
I bless you to spend more time understanding God's will and live wisely.
Ⅲ. It is being filled with the Holy Spirit.
To live wisely is to live by being filled with the Holy Spirit. “Do not get drunk with wine, for this is debauchery, but be filled with the Holy Spirit” (verse 18). To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to be filled with the Holy Spirit continuously every day and every hour. Also, I do not come with the power of the Holy Spirit, but I come under the control of the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Holy Spirit means to be tamed by the Holy Spirit. I am taming my tongue, taming my eyes, taming my thoughts, taming my hands and feet, taming my values. It is opening the realm of my life so that the Holy Spirit can rule over me, and I am being tamed by the Holy Spirit.
If you want to live the wisest life in this world, you need to be governed, governed, and tamed by the Holy Spirit.
I bless you to be filled with the Holy Spirit and live wisely.
