Title: Learn and Be Confident
content br>
“Evil men and deceivers are getting worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But keep in the things you have learned and have been convinced of. You know from whom you have been taught, and since you were young you have known the Scriptures. The Scriptures are able to make you believe in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be perfected for every good work. ” (2 Timothy 3:13-17)
It happened a while ago. There were two people who were seniors and juniors in the same university and the same department. We fell in love with each other, and we dated for about 4 years from when we were in college. As the wedding day drew near, it was a time to send wedding invitations, arrange a wedding ceremony, and prepare a place to share love.
One day, around ten o'clock at night, I got a call from the man I was about to get married to to meet me outside for a while. The bride-to-be got a call from her fianc e and left the house in the same attire without any doubt. But it was the last day for the bride. The priest was murdered and then buried in the wild. The perpetrator was the man he was going to marry. This was ten days before the wedding, and the bride was four months pregnant. We live in a truly wicked world.
“Evil men and deceivers are getting worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13).
Paul is speaking his wisdom through the Holy Spirit to his beloved disciple Timothy, whom he cherishes like a son.
“But abide in what you have learned and have been convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned” (2 Timothy 3:14).
“Learn,” “Be confident,” “Know from whom.” These three exhortations are God's noble truths that not only Timothy but also God's people, who live in an evil age, a world where they deceive and deceive each other, must receive and obey. People of God who want to live according to the will of Jesus must learn.
Because the world is evil and deceives and deceives each other, even if the world only suffers, suffers, and suffers, I cannot be like them. It should not be done again. That's why the Bible says, "But you learn." What does “but” mean? It means, “Evil people and deceivers will only get worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived, but you must not live like that.” Jesus' people must learn. What should I learn? You must learn the “Bible”. Don't learn the world. Don't learn what bad people do. Don't learn what cheaters do. They live that way, but we shouldn't live like them. Instead of living like them, we should learn the Bible.
What kind of book is the Bible? Paul, a man of God, says the following about the Bible.
“And from childhood you have known the Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. so that the man of God may be perfected for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
according to this
First, the Bible is a book that makes us wise to salvation.
“The book that gives wisdom to salvation” means a book that teaches the way to salvation. There are millions of books in this world. But there is no other book other than the Bible that taught us the way to salvation. The Bible is truly a great book. Those who do not know the way of salvation can only know the way of salvation through the Bible. The way of salvation from eternal death to eternal life is in this book.
Second, the Bible is a book inspired by God.
When the Bible is inspired by God, it means that the Bible is the work of God. That is, God directly intervened in the Bible record, selected people to write the Bible, and when they wrote the Bible, He moved them with the Holy Spirit and gave them the words to write.
“For no prophecy (the Bible) ever came by the will of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21).
The Bible is not a book written by man, that is, by his will. The Bible is a book written by the will of God, that is, by the will of God. Therefore, the Bible is the Word of God and the book of God.
Third, the Bible is a useful book for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.
The Bible is not an incantation to practice some mystical magic. The Bible is a book of real life very closely related to people. The Bible is not only a book of salvation, it is an excellent textbook for education. Paul said it was a useful book for instruction. In the text, “precept” means “doctrine”. “Doctrine” is a core truth of the Bible that does not change. For example, “God created the heavens and the earth”, “God created human beings in the image of God”, “Jesus is God the Son of God”, “Jesus died for the sins of all people”, “ Jesus rose from the dead on the third day”, “By faith all sins are forgiven and salvation is achieved”, etc. Doctrine There can be dozens or hundreds of doctrines for each topic in the Bible.
Doctrine cannot be compromised even if one tries to compromise as the core of truth.
Times may change, but doctrine cannot change. Even if heaven and earth disappear, doctrine cannot disappear. A person who does not have correct doctrine is a person whose heart and soul are not correct. Conversely, a person who has a right doctrine is a person with a right heart and soul. More than anything else, people need the right doctrine. The book of benefit for this proper catechesis is the Bible.
The Bible is a useful book for reproof as well as for doctrine. Because people are sinners and needy, they can make mistakes either intentionally or unintentionally. At this time, anyone needs reproof from anyone. There is no other book more useful for this reproof than the Bible. When parents see their children's mistakes and rebuke them in their own way according to their own philosophy, they cannot guarantee good results of the reproof. However, good results can be obtained if parents rebuke them in the Bible's way. When a person reads, studies, and learns the Bible, he will be rebuked through the Bible. The Bible is also a useful book for correcting.
“Correct” means “correct”. It's about fixing what's wrong. The Bible corrects our thoughts when we are wrong. The Bible corrects your life when it is wrong. The Bible corrects the heart if the heart is wrong, and the soul if the soul is wrong. The Bible is a book that cannot be followed even if all the moral books of this world are put together.
The Bible is also useful for training in righteousness. The Bible is a training textbook that trains people to live “righteously.” Humans are inherently sinners, so just as pigs like dirty places and search for gutter, so do humans. Therefore, a person needs training to live righteously. To train, you need a training textbook, and the Bible is that textbook. “Righteousness” is “righteousness” in our relationship with God. Righteousness is “righteousness” in relation to man. In order for a person to live righteously, he must be trained by the Bible.
The Bible is not the only one. The Bible is an eternal book.
“Your word, O LORD, is established forever in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89).
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of immortal seed, by the living and abiding Word of God. “The word of the Lord endures forever.” This is the gospel that was preached to you” (1 Peter 1:23-25).
The Bible is a book without lies.
“Every word of God is pure, and God is a shield to those who trust in him” (Proverbs 30:5).
“The word of the Lord is pure, like silver refined seven times in the crucible of earth” (Psalm 12:6).
“The way of God is perfect, and the word of the Lord is pure; he is a shield for all who take refuge in him” (Psalm 18:30).
“The teachings of the Lord are upright and rejoice in the heart; the commandments of the Lord are pure and open the eyes” (Psalm 19:8).
“Your word is very refined, and your servant loves it” (Psalm 119:140).
The Bible is a living book.
“For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
The Bible is a book that makes your faith grow.
“Therefore faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17).
The Bible is a book that gives strength to the soul.
“I have kept my feet from every evil way, that I may keep Your word” (Psalm 119:101).
The Bible is a book that brings joy to our hearts.
“Your testimony I have inherited forever, for it is the joy of my heart” (Psalm 119:111).
The Bible is a book of peace.
“Great peace are with those who love your law, and there will be no obstacle for them” (Psalm 119:165).
We must learn the Bible. The original text of the New Testament for 'learn' is “manthano”. It means “to learn”, “to study”, “to increase knowledge”. The Bible tells us to study the Bible. One of Jesus' supreme commands is the learning command.
“Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
One of the central works of the apostles was Bible study.
“Every day whether they were in the temple or at home, they did not cease teaching and preaching that Jesus was the Christ” (Acts 5:42).
Bible study was one of the important lives of the early church members.
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).
Paul gave his disciple Timothy counsel about Bible study.
“Until I come, devote yourself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching” (1 Timothy 4:13).
“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men, that they may teach others” (2 Timothy 2:2).
