Title: Leave It All to God

“Leave it all to God” (2 Samuel 1:1-16)
Looking at the cause of the incident, when Saul is about to die after being defeated in a war with the Philistines, he does not want to die at the hands of the enemy, so Saul asks the boy to die. However, when the boy was hesitant to kill King Saul, Saul drew his own sword and stabbed himself to death. They lie that they killed Saul. But when David heard these words, he was not happy, but rather sad, tore his clothes, fasted, and cried out, not rewarding the boy, but killing the boy.
This is the purpose of this morning's text homily. The purpose of the sermon is to not play tricks like a boy, but to entrust everything to God and live according to God's will.
I. Don't be a cunning guy like this boy.
There is an old saying, “I am overtaken by my own ideas”. This boy is. If he said he had killed Saul, he must have thought David would like him, so the boy had lied that he had killed Saul. But David thinks differently. How can I kill the king whom God anointed with oil on his head? So the boy slyly tries to win the prize and dies. Those who use tricks without relying entirely on God are falling for their own tricks. Therefore, no matter what difficulties we face, we must not change our minds or retreat from the path of faith and have faith like a rock to receive blessings from God. In the name of the Lord, I bless you that you give up on human cunning behavior and entrust everything to God with a faith that is pleasing to God and like a rock.
II. Don't try to avenge yourself.
Romans 12:19 says, “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but leave it to wrath, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Our Christianity is a religion of love that overcomes evil with good.
If a man of God does something wrong, God will take care of it. As a human being, I must not judge hastily and do not try to do anything on my own. Especially when it comes to God's people, we must leave it to God. In the name of the Lord, I bless you that the more difficult the problem, the more you do not try to solve it yourself and leave it to God.
Ⅲ. We must cherish those who are anointed by God.
There are three anointing offices in the Old Testament. They are kings, prophets, and priests. However, in the New Testament, Christ was the Messiah that had never been seen before as he held these three offices.
One of David's greatest strengths is that he cherished the anointed of God. In today's text, when he heard that the Amalekites had killed King Saul, he said, "Why were you not afraid to kill the anointed of the Lord? Are you?” David valued the anointed of God so much because he valued God more than the anointed. (Please listen carefully and there is no misunderstanding.) God always gives blessings to those who do God's work and to those who value God's anointed ones. Seongsan alumni! Today, I thought of three lessons under the title “Leave it to God”. First, as children of God, we should not be people who go against God’s will by using cunning human tricks, but we should always remain silent and loyal.
Second, never seek revenge under any circumstances, and leave it to God. Lastly, I bless you in the name of the Lord that you will receive abundant blessings from God by cherishing those who do God's work.
