Title: Lessons from Hosanna/Matthew 21:1-11
Contents
Introduction
1. Among the feasts of the church, Easter is the most important one. Easter begins 40 days before the season of Lent.
2. The last of that Lent is Holy Week. At the beginning of Holy Week, Jesus entered Jerusalem.
3. At that time, Jesus was very popular. To those who were oppressed by the rulers, the existence of Jesus was a great thing.
4. So they welcomed Jesus more as a leader of the nation than as a religious leader. They were convinced that Jesus' entry into Jerusalem must be the process of formally declaring him the leader of the nation.
5. So on the day Jesus entered Jerusalem, a huge crowd had gathered.
6. Of course, Jesus also entered as a king. But Jesus' thoughts and the crowd's thoughts were completely different. Even the disciples did not know what Jesus was thinking. The first Passion Week started with these different thoughts.
7. The nation's cheers for Jesus as he entered were at their peak. But they knew nothing of the truth. it had been misunderstood However, this misfortune is one of the things that are still repeated.
I. It was a fulfillment of prophecy (1-5).
A. Isaiah and Zechariah prophesied.
1. They all said that the Messiah would come to Jerusalem riding on the colt. It was a behavior that was far from people's common sense. But it was a biblical prophecy.
2. Jesus had to secure the donkey first. There were disciples, but they did not have the capacity to handle these things on their own. A competent secretary takes care of what the owner wants on his own. But the disciples had no sense of what the Lord wanted. Because their worlds are different.
3. The disciples also had the same thoughts as the general crowd. If they had understood the will of the Lord, they would have taken care of everything on their own.
4. The Lord instructed the two disciples to go into the town they saw and bring a donkey. In addition, he explained all possible questions so that no further questions were needed.
5. There have already been some mysterious things of this kind in the work of Jesus. The disciples obeyed without saying a word, because if they put fishing on the Sea of Galilee they would bite and there would be money in it or other possible similar cases.
B. It was an entry for death.
1. Now, in front of the Lord, there were two ways to become a king and a death row prisoner. The Lord could have entered in a splendid way.
2. The history of the church in Korea is a representative case of burning a wasteland and making roses bloom. Despite the difficult circumstances, the saints gave hard donations and built a church capable of overwhelming the area. Few churches are founded by one or two specific people. Even the poor people, working together, have accomplished great things.
3. Likewise, those who followed the Lord can do great things if they join forces for the Lord.
could pay At least if the Lord agreed. Barely a colt--- Isn't that also a "rental car" in today's language, not something you bought with money? How could the Lord not have the ability to own a car?
5. Because the Lord entered for death, he rented a donkey for free. However, today we are decorating ourselves as splendidly as possible, perhaps because we are clamoring to ‘live’.
7. The ‘donkey’ carrying the Lord is an animal that symbolizes peace and purity. The frugal life of the saints becomes the conscience of this age.
8. The saints should not try to be treated badly by the world. The Lord has given up everything. He threw it out like a scorpion. Let us also give up our desire to be treated.
II. It was a meaningless cry (6-11).
A. I shouted Hosanna.
1. The word “Hosanna” means “I pray, save us.” This cry of the crowd is by no means in vain. But the problem is that he didn't know what it meant.
2. A chaotic situation that cannot be predicted even an inch is unfolding right now. Apparently, they shouted, 'Save us,' to the incoming Lord.
3. However, a few days later, they cry out to the Lord, “Crucify him.” How cruel is this world?
4.Sometimes, he trembles at every means he can't do without you, and then one day he suddenly says, 'I don't need you anymore, so please disappear.'
5. Moreover, doesn't the Lord know all of these things ahead of time? Now, let's just imagine that they're going crazy for me like that, but in a few days, you'll cry out to me to die.
6. Among them, how many of them are “saved” as they cried out? Probably none. Because they did not believe that Jesus died for their sins.
7. However, Hosanna's power soon appeared. Word quickly spread throughout the city of Jerusalem. And people wondered who the hell was that? It was truly a great publicity stunt.
B. Praise the Lord.
1. The inhabitants of Jerusalem shouted Hosanna without knowing what they meant. And they were really in need of salvation.
2. Had they truly known what their cry meant, they could all have been saved.
3. How are we now? Just like being deceived by a pseudo-religion and being deceived by the headmaster, our bodies are in the chapel, but if our hearts do not know the truth, we are no different.
4. The commotion of the crowd shook the whole area. If they had done so if they truly knew the truth, the history of the world would have been different. What would be the reaction if we now shout 'Hosanna' like the crowds of that time?
5.People asked, ‘What the hell is Esu?’ If those who have been transformed by faith shout out loudly to the world, they will wonder who Jesus is.
conclusion
1. Hosanna means “Lord, save us.” We cannot save ourselves, so we have to shout “Hosanna”.
2. However, there are many people in the world who cry blindly without knowing anything. Maybe I am one of them?
3. The Lord did not ride on a horse, but on a donkey. And that donkey---. Why did you do that? It was to cast aside vanity and appeal to humility. Let go of vanity. Let go of the lies. And let's be humble and humble.
4. It was a cry that had no meaning, but it awakened people's consciousness. If so, how will the world react if we experience being born again, realize the love of Jesus and cry out? So let us praise the Lord with all our might.
