Title: Lessons in Unity/John 1:10-13
(2 John 1:10) If anyone comes to you without this teaching, do not bring him into your house or greet him (2 John 1:11).
Those who have the precepts of Christ should be well united with those who have precepts.
I warn you not to associate with someone who doesn't have a lesson.
1. What is a happy union?
1) It is a union between husband and wife.
(Genesis 2:24) For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
2) Union with Jehovah brings victory.
(2 Kings 18:5) Hezekiah relied on the Lord, the God of Israel, and there was none like him among the kings of Judah before and after him (2 Kings 18:6). He was united with the Lord and did not depart; he kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses (2 Kings 18). (2 Kings 18:8) And the LORD was with him, and he prospered wherever he went. He rejected the king of Assyria and did not serve him (2 Kings 18:8) and struck down the Philistines, from the tower to the fortified city.
3) Union with Jesus also brings happiness.
(John 15:1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. (John 15:2) Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, the Father will take it away; and every branch that bears fruit, he cleanses it so that it may bear more fruit. (John 15:3) You are already clean by the words I spoke to you. (John 15:4) Abide in me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, so you too (John 15:5) I am the vine and you are the branch; if he is in me and I in him, this man bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). (John 15:7) If a man does not abide in me, he throws it out like a branch and withers away. People gather it and throw it into the fire and burn it (John 15:7) If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish. Then it will be done
2. Avoid unhappy unions
(Exodus 23:1) You shall not spread false rumors, and you shall not be an invulnerable witness in association with the wicked.
(Exodus 23:2) Do not follow the majority to do evil, nor give unjust testimony according to the majority in a case (Ex 23:3)
(Exodus 34:11) Take heed that you do what I command you today, and behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites (Exodus 34:12). Make no covenant with the inhabitants of the earth, lest they become a snare among you (Exodus 34:13), but tear down their altars, break their pillars, and cut down their Asherah tables.
(Psalm 1:1) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers
(Proverbs 4:14) Do not enter the path of the wicked, do not walk in the way of the wicked.
(Proverbs 24:1) Do not envy the prosperity of the wicked, nor desire to be with him.
(1 Corinthians 5:11) Now I write to you, "Do not associate with anyone who is called a brother who is fornication, greedy, idolatry, slander, drunkenness, or extortion, and you shall not eat with such a person.
(2 Corinthians 6:14) Do not yoke ye with unbelievers. How can righteousness and lawlessness share, and what has light and darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:15) What is the harmony between Christ and Belial, between the believer and the unbeliever? how do you care
(2 Corinthians 6:16) How can the temple of God agree with idols? We are the temple of the living God. Thus says God, "I will dwell among them, and walk about, I will be their God, and they will be my people."
3. Consequences of an Unhappy Union
1) become unhappy
(Hosea 4:17) Let Ephraim be united with idols.
(Numbers 33:55) If you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, the ones you leave behind will become thorns in your eyes and stings in your sides, and they will torment you in the land where you live (Numbers 33:55). 56) I will do to you what I thought I would do to them.
(Psalm 50:17) You hate teaching and throw my words behind you.
(Psalm 50:18) And when they see a thief, they are united with them, and they are like an adulterer.
(Psalm 50:19) You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue deceives (Psalm 50:20) You sit down and reproach your brother, and slander your mother's son (Psalm 50:22) You who have forgotten God, Think about it, or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to rescue you.
2) Apostasy takes place
(1 Kings 11:2-11) The LORD had spoken to the children of Israel concerning these nations earlier, saying, Do not communicate with them, neither do they communicate with you. Solomon loved them
3) Live the wrath of God.
(2 Chronicles 19:2) So Jehu the seer son of Hanani went out to meet King Jehoshaphat and said, Is it lawful for you to help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Therefore the wrath of the LORD will come upon you.
(Psalm 106:28) And they united with Baal-peor and ate food sacrificed to the dead (Psalm 106:29), and plagues were among them, because their deeds provoked the Lord.
4) Denying Christ
(John 18:17) The maid at the door said to Peter, "Aren't you also one of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not." (John 18:18) It was cold at that time, so the servant and his servants stood and warmed by a charcoal fire, and Peter was with them. (John 18:25) Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. People asked, "Aren't you also one of his disciples?" Peter denied and said, "I am not."
5) Corruption
(1 Corinthians 15:33) Do not be deceived, for evil companions defile good deeds (1 Corinthians 15:34) Awake, do righteousness, and do not sin; for there are some who do not know God, I speak to you to shame.
