Bible: Romans 8:13-17

Title: Let's Be Guided by God's Spirit

Romans 8:13-17 ‘13. If you live according to the flesh, you will surely die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14. All those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.

15. You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but because you received the spirit of adoption, we cry Abba, Father. 16. The Holy Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

17. If children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, for we must suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

The Bible reveals that the devil has been in control of human life ever since he committed original sin, although God, who is a spirit, breathed in his character and created him as a noble spiritual being. teach facts.

The problem is that humans cannot overcome the domination of the devil on their own. It is possible only with the spiritual guidance of Almighty God. Based on the text, I would like to share the sermon entitled <Let's be guided by the Spirit of God>.

1. If you live by natural instinct, you will surely die.

People live in the illusion that living in the world is the freedom that humans have. However, from the biblical point of view, all human affairs apart from God are bound by the chains of sin and live as servants of Satan.

Romans 8:13 “If you live according to the flesh you will surely die; but if you put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit you will live.”

To live according to the flesh means to live according to our instincts without God's spiritual guidance, but if we do not receive God's spiritual guidance, we receive the spirit of the devil instead.

Ephesians 2:2 “In those days you walked in them, following the customs of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience.”

1 John 5:19 “… We belong to God, and the whole world lies in the evil one (Satan).”

In the Old Testament, when King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon was proud, God cursed him to receive the spirit of an animal and live a miserable life for 7 years.

Daniel 4:16 “And their heart will be changed, and not the heart of men, but the heart of beasts, and seven times shall pass.”

Daniel 4:33 “…I was driven out by men, and ate grass like an ox, and my body was wet with the dew of heaven, and my hair was like the hair of an eagle, my nails like the claws of birds.”

Normal beasts are not only beasts, but if an evil spirit is in a person's mind, they will only become intelligent animals. The truth is, there are far too many humans in the world who are worse than beasts, right? Psalm 49:20 “...the man who does not understand is like the beasts that perish”

Proverbs 12:1 “…He who hates discipline is like an animal.”

The word beast appears 48 times in the New Testament, and 33 times in the Book of Revelation. The last days imply that the world will become like beasts.

Revelation 13:1 “I saw a beast coming out of the sea…”

2 Peter 2:12 “…these men are like irrational beasts, born to be caught and killed…”

Jude 1:10 “… They perish by what they know by instinct, like irrational beasts”

Living according to the flesh is the spirit of the devil, so it means that we will eventually perish.

2. The Spirit of God Gives Peace

The Spirit of God is also expressed as the Spirit of Christ in verse 9 earlier in the text. The Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, uses the word pneu'ma, which literally means the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:15 “You have received no more the spirit of bondage to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption, so we cry, Abba, Father.”

What is the spirit of the servant who fears? It is the spirit of Satan, the evil spirit that ruled over our nature before we believed in Jesus Christ.

If you truly fall into the grace of the blood of Jesus, you will never be controlled by a terrible spirit.

John 8:32 “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”

Galatians 5:1 “For Christ set us free, so stand firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery”

2 Corinthians 3:17 “...Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

It is also wrong that anxiety often comes into the life of faith. If you truly have faith, you should be at peace. If you smile, you will be blessed, but it is not something that manipulates your peace. You must find the peace that the Lord will give you. There are even people who pray hard for fear that they will not be saved.

It is an act of misunderstanding and believing in Jesus. Because of the false doctrine taught by the so-called rapture theorists. He prayed because he was worried that he might not be able to rapture. That's wrong.

Job 22:21 “You shall be at peace with God, and good will come upon you.”

3. You must be guided by the Spirit of God in the spirit of the cross

Recently, in the Korean church society, there are more and more pseudo-teachers and heresies who deceive people saying that I have received God and I am a missionary. In times like these, how can we properly receive and enjoy the guidance of the true Spirit of God without being deceived?

Romans 8:17 “If children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, for we must suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.”

Here, we need to pay attention to the words that we will have to suffer along with suffering in order to be glorified. The Christian law of obtaining blessings does not change. As in the past, now and tomorrow, only the spirit of the cross can protect my soul and enjoy the peace of God.

After being arrogant, Satan was punished by God and became a god who deceives the world with pride. Therefore, no matter what mysteries, powers, and miracles a leader displays, if he shows off his pride or is proud of himself, he must know that the Spirit of the Lord has departed from him and that evil spirits are ruling him. The false prophets in Matthew 7:21-23 are such people. There was no salvation even if they showed their powers and skills to cast out demons.

1 John 4:1 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Therefore, if anyone does not strive for the spiritual guidance of the Lord, he must be careful knowing that he will live and perish according to his nature.

Ephesians 6:12 “Our wrestling is not against flesh and blood…but against the spirits of evil in the heavens”

Galatians 5:16 “I tell you, walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

I pray that you and I will be able to enjoy the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who kills the demands of nature and the flesh, fights and overcomes the selfish self, and receives the good and favor of the Lord. *
