Let's have the heart of the Lord
Philippians 2:1-11
Text Commentary/ The Philippian church was the place where the Apostle Paul opened the door to the second mission. The Apostle Paul established a church in Philippi, the gateway to Europe, as a strategic site for missions. However, it seems that the members of the Philippi church were losing the heart of Jesus. So, it seems that they do not have one heart and one mind with love, and they seem to work hard, but they do not have Jesus Christ at the center and they are full of their own self. So, conflicts deepened within the church, and it seems that the church lost its power as it was implied that only one was born with pride. That is why the Apostle Paul exhorted the Philippians to “have the mind of Christ Jesus in you.”
Question 1: What virtues are necessary for the fellowship of saints? (Verses 1-4)
Answer: (1) The comfort of love, mercy and mercy, etc. (verse 1).
However, these virtues shine when we have the same heart, have the same love, agree with one another, and have one heart. If the other person does not accept it, no matter how good the heart is, it cannot be shared (verse 2).
(2) In community, we can bring spiritual unity when we regard others as superior to ourselves (verse 3).
No matter how much you do what is right and what you think, if Jesus Christ is not in you, if the center of your right actions and thoughts is not God but yourself, you will become arrogant and exalt yourself above others. and problems arise.
⑶ We have more joy when we take care of others than when we take care of ourselves (verse 4).
We can find this kind of heart in Jesus.
Question 2: What is the heart of the Lord? (Verses 6-9)
Answer: (1) The humiliation of denying oneself (v. 6).
Jesus is essentially God. He is still God, but He has given up and withheld His glory and honor.
(2) self-emptying humiliation (v. 7).
Self-emptying humility is an attitude of life that is built on the foundation of ‘I am a sinner’. Our Jesus comes to us when we confess that we are sinners. What is the inside of a person who takes the form of a servant and serves? First, we prioritize our relationship with God. A servant's life is not focused on himself, but on the master's will. A servant exists for his master. The second species focuses on humans. Because the owner's interest is in man. But when serving people, the servant sacrifices.
⑶ The humiliation of obedience to the point of death (v. 8).
Jesus, who came to this earth in the flesh, was obedient to the point of death. Jesus opened the way for mankind's salvation by offering Himself on the cross. This is an event that proves God's love for mankind (Romans 5:8).
Question 3: How did God exalt the humble Lord? (verses 9-11)
Answer: (1) God exalted Jesus, who was humbled by denying equality with God, above every name (v. 9). When there is thorough obedience to God's Word, God exalts him. This is the Christian principle of blessing.
(2) God emptied Himself and made all things kneel before the humbled Jesus (verse 10). Our Lord gives grace to the humble. He resists the proud and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6,10).
⑶ God is glorified by allowing us to confess that Jesus, who was humbled to death on the cross, is Lord (verse 11). Please invite your VIPs to this Thanksgiving Day, Professor Kihyun Baek's praise and testimony meeting. I hope that through their confession of Jesus as Lord before the Lord, an event that will greatly glorify God will occur.
Question 4: We must have the heart of the Lord (v. 5).
Answer: (1) We want to have a name, we want everyone to respect us, and we want to be glorified. But the blessing of such exaltation is the blessing that comes from being humbled like Jesus.
(2) Only when we have the heart of Jesus can we acquire the Christian qualities described in Philippians 2:1-4.
Decision message:
The heart of the Lord is humbled to save mankind. Please check if you have a heart to serve others. Please ask for the humility to regard the soul to evangelize as better than me. And I hope you will serve by evangelism this time. So I pray that God will exalt you.
