Title: Let's live without being vigilant. Text: Joshua 9:1-15
1. Carelessness in our spiritual life creates obstacles in our physical life.
Joshua 10:6-7 How do we know that Joshua was vigilant? Joshua 9:14 “The crowd had taken their food, and they did not ask the Lord what to do.” This is Joshua, who experienced failure even in the first battle of Ai fortress by trusting only the words of the spies without asking God and doing what he wanted. However, the fact that they did not ask God about the treatment of the Gibeonites now shows the state of mind of Joshua and the leaders of Israel. It also shows Joshua's momentary inattention. Deuteronomy 20:18 tells us that these Canaanites caused the Israelites to sin against the Lord. In Joshua chapter 10, we had to fight because of them.
2. Carelessness in our spiritual life makes us lose our spiritual discernment.
Joshua 9:9 The Gibeonites are using the name of Jehovah to deceive Joshua and the people of Israel. In response to Joshua's question, the Gibeonites say that they have come from a distant land because of the name of the Lord. He is referring to the name of God in order to escape from a momentary crisis at a moment when his identity may be lost. Joshua and the Israelites were thoroughly deceived by them. We had to thoroughly examine and examine it, but if we were careless for a moment, we eventually lost our spiritual discernment and entered into a covenant that God told us not to do. Carelessness leads to this loss of spiritual discernment. It makes it impossible to distinguish what is true and what is false. It makes it impossible to distinguish which is the truth of God and which is the word of Satan.
3. Carelessness in our spiritual life causes us to lose opportunities and torment ourselves.
4. The way to be vigilant is to ask God.
Joshua 9:14 We cannot walk the long path of life without God's guidance. What is our lifeline? It is a right relationship with God. For this right relationship, we must not neglect to ask God. You have to ask anyway. You should always consult with God. God is not annoyed even if we ask hundreds or thousands of times. James 1:5 If we are to be vigilant, we must ask God. God doesn't rebuke you for being annoying. Spiritual negligence of not asking questions leads to failure. Our failure comes from neglect of our spiritual life. How do you ask? It is just asking through prayer.
