Title: Let the truth be free...

Contents

Text: John 8:31-36

A research team at Oklahoma State University in the US taught sign language to a 15-year-old chimpanzee to determine the limits of intelligence in animals. I put all my effort into teaching 140+ words and trying to put them together according to my own thoughts. What this chimpanzee expressed through sign language was an important concern. And the first thing the chimpanzee said was this. “Let me out.” It was asking me to let go.

What about us humans? As Patrick Henry said, “Give me freedom or give me death,” all human beings long for freedom.

In a word, Christianity can be said to be a religion of freedom. The Bible has a lot to say about freedom.

Psalm 146:7 He judges with justice for the oppressed, He gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners.

Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord has come upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and has sent me to preach liberty to the captives, and restoration of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, that the year of grace might be preached.

Romans 8:21 Their hope is that the creation also be set free from its bondage to corruption, to the glorious liberty of the children of God.

2 Corinthians 3:17 The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Galatians 5:1 Christ set us free, so stand firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:13 For you were called to freedom, brethren, but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

What should we be free from...

1. Freedom from sin (Text 32, 33, 34, 35)

1609, right after the Imjin War. It is said that 47% of the population of Joseon and 53% of the population of Hanyang (Seoul) were slaves. It is said that when a slave who was born as a human, but sold like a commodity, escaped because he wanted to live like a human being, there was a gangster who caught them. As Jesus said, if you commit a sin, you become a slave to sin. Because we sin as sin tells us to, and we continue to sin, and we continue to sin.... How do we go about sinning? I can't go to heaven. Look at verse 35. Slaves are those who are slaves to sin, but those who are slaves to sin cannot dwell in the house forever... Where shall we go? It is the kingdom of God. That's the house we're going to enter. You must go. Will definitely go. Because of who... Because of Jesus, who solved the problem of my sins and your sins... Only through faith in Jesus' name... Not by my efforts and good deeds... In Jesus' name... But ... Even if you say you believe in Jesus, if you do not commit sins and repent... you will not be able to go. Why... Because I became a slave to sin.

so God

Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin have dominion over your mortal body, so that you obey its lusts, and do not present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those raised from the dead. and present your members to God as instruments of righteousness; sin will not have dominion over you, for you are not under law, but under grace.

Lee Bong-ju Marathon Runner / Distance traveled for 20 years 4 times around the globe / Overcoming single-foot and single-eye weakness with mental strength

"Run 5 hours a day, keep it on your honeymoon"

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

A prisoner from a prison in Sydney, Australia dreamed of escaping. He noticed the bread delivery truck coming to the prison at a certain time. And, taking advantage of the neglect of surveillance, he secretly hid in the car. There was not enough oxygen in the car, so it was stuffy enough to suffocate, and my body was covered with sweat and dust. However, he endured the pain as he imagined a free life that would soon unfold. Then the car stopped. He looked around and got out of the car. Now live a happy and free life without any restraints. However, the delivery truck arrived in front of another prison canteen. He was immediately caught and sent back to prison. Another prison after escaping in hopes of freedom.... If the fundamental sin problem is not solved, the misfortune of being imprisoned in another prison continues. In the name of Jesus, I pray that the problem of sin will be completely resolved. Please believe that all sins are solved in the name of Jesus.

Who can set us free?

The truth sets us free.

Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father except through me / Jesus is the truth. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We have a different mind yesterday and a different mind today. It was like this. It was like that... I change my mind 12 times a day. I didn't say it well by mistake. I'm sorry. Jesus has no such thing. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. There is no change. Why? Because Jesus is the truth. Verse 36... Jesus says. If the Son (I) set you free, you will be truly free... Where is true happiness? Some people firmly believe that money brings happiness. Some believe in marriage, some in wealth and glory, some in high authority... and some in profound enlightenment.

But Jesus says. If I set you free, you will be truly (really, truly) free... This is the article by Lee Chung-yong, who plays for the Bolton team in the English Premier League.

I always wanted to be a player like Park Ji-sung. "It's a privilege for me to be able to spend time with him. He gives me advice, big and small, and helps me a lot, including pointing out Korean stores in Manchester. "He made me realize the presence of a strong senior.

Because of Park Ji-sung, Lee Cheong-yong's life is reassuring. Meeting Ji-Sung Park is the privilege of his life. Isn't Jesus more than Park Ji-sung? Jesus truly sets me and you free. It is Jesus who gives you strength, strength, strength to endure, strength to overcome, strength to escape... strength, strength, strength to you who are in pain and despair.

Verse 36 If the Son sets you free... Jesus can set some people free, but He doesn't give others freedom. Who will not receive the freedom that Jesus offers?

This is verse 37. But my words have no place in you....You have no room for my word. Literally translated, you have no room. my words can stay...

First, if you love this world more than God, you cannot have the true freedom that Jesus gives you.

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, for all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. not from, but from the world; the world and its lusts pass away, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Augustine mentions in detail the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life in the second half of Volume 10 of the Confessions.

First, the lusts of the flesh. The lusts of the flesh are temptations of touch, taste, smell, hearing, sight...

Temptation of touch - touch and touch

The temptation of taste - In order to maintain life and health, you only need to eat the right amount of food, but the problem is that food craving. Augustine said that a man is a great man if he renounces his appetite and does not cross the threshold necessary to sustain his life and health. And he honestly confesses that he can never do that because he is a sinner.

The seduction of smell - the seduction of the scent of flowers or perfume

The temptation of hearing - being sucked in by a certain song sometimes loses your mind.

Temptation of sight - the most powerful temptation... Obscene movies, horror movies, violent movies, kinky movies

Second, the lust/curiosity of the eye

Regarding curiosity, Augustine cites the body as an example. Assuming there is a corpse torn apart, no one other than the psychopath will take pleasure in seeing that gruesome corpse. However, people turn their heads because of their persistent curiosity and try to see the corpse no matter how painful it is. It is because of curiosity that people today pay so much attention to the privacy of others. Some celebrities have been married, divorced, what happened. Searching the Internet and watching TV is all because of the temptation of curiosity. If someone quarrels while crossing the road, you should just pass quickly, but all of a sudden, my nerves and mind are inclined to it because of curiosity.

Third, it explains the temptation of pride/pride in this life and the temptation of praise.

Isn't there a saying that praise makes even dolphins dance?

We want people to say, "Well done, well done!"

In Queen Seondeok, when he was a boy, Bidam secretly injects poison and kills them all in order to retrieve the stolen book on the unification of the three Koreas. To Master Munno... I've killed them all and found the book... I'm proud to say.
