Title: Levitical Ministry/Numbers 3:1~4:49

Contents 3. Levitical ministry

Numbers 3:14:49

In accordance with God's instructions, each tribe of Israel is fully prepared to encamp at their positions around the tabernacle and march without a single error. In this regard, God explains in detail the rules for the Levites who will serve in the tabernacle on behalf of the people of Israel in Chapters 3 and 4 in detail.

We see that the Levites are specially set apart for the service of God, as seen in God's instruction to “give the Levites to Aaron” (3:9). In other words, we remember that when God killed all the firstborn in Egypt, only the firstborn in Israel were spared. Therefore, the firstborn sons of Israel could of course belong to God, but God chose the Levites instead of taking the firstborn. And he declares, “The Levites are mine” (verse 12). This implies that the life of a consecrated Levite should seek only the glory and benefit of God.

God, who separated the Levites in this way, now instructs them in detail for each family of work they should perform. That's right. The duties of the Levites were divided according to Levi's three sons, Gershon Kohath, and the house of Merari. That is, the sons of Gershon were to carry and manage all the curtains and curtains, the sons of Merari were to carry and manage all the pillars and bases of the tabernacle, and the sons of Kohath were to carry and manage the main equipment in the tabernacle.

This division of ministry is an act that suggests that there is a diversity of serving God and the amount of grace granted to each as a measure for more effective service. It shows the truth that we can be perfect only when we are based on cooperation and trust.

What is your attitude toward service in the church you serve? We desperately need an attitude of volunteering in which we can do everything on our own and work together. I hope you will become a mature Christian who solves problems through compromise, not as a single fire general in everything.
