Title: Liberator Jesus Christ
Text: Isaiah 60:1-3, Luke 4:16-19
'Gwangbokjeol' means 'the festival of the return of light'. August 15, 1945 is the day when the Second World War ended when Japan surrendered to the Allied Forces. In the United States, it is called “V-J Day”, in Russia “Victory Day” in Russia, and in North Korea “Day of Liberation of the Fatherland”. This year marks the 65th anniversary. It is a title that reminds you of what life was like for 36 years after losing the country. These are the lyrics of 'Liberation Day Song' (lyricist Jeong In-bo). [One. Let's touch the soil again. Even the seawater dances./ What can you do, old man and friend who was trying to see it?/ This day is a trail of hot blood for 40 years/ Let's keep the road. Keep the road./ 2. Will you forget about your dreams? Are you going to forget the past?/ Let's plant a blessing together, take care of it, and raise it to reach the sky/ A holy light that will be worthwhile for the world will come/ Let's protect it together. Let's keep it together./]
The country's rule of law (庚戌國恥), in which the international situation and domestic affairs were harmonized, made Japan suffer all kinds of things, and it made us suffer a lot. The sorrows we had to endure without a country are things that we should not forget. The lessons of history prevent the repetition of misfortunes. The tragedy of national reconciliation is also something that cannot be said to be unrelated to Japanese colonial rule. How can I describe all the sorrows I had to go through after losing my country? I had to endure the sorrow of being deprived of all the freedoms necessary to be alive, including the right to food, clothing, and shelter necessary for survival. Freedom of thought, speech, and writing were lost. He had to lead a life of servitude and slavery. Even if you don't know the moment (瞬間), even an hour is hard and difficult, but it's not a day, two days, a month, two months, but 40 years. It is a sad story that contains the phrase, ‘Traces of blood clotted with hot blood for 40 years’.
Speaking of the history of suffering that the nation had to go through, Israel is no exception. The Egyptian slavery was 430 years and the Babylonian captivity was 70 years. The long-awaited ‘savior and Messiah’ they had on this journey of suffering is based on such sad history. Today's Old Testament text (Isaiah 60:1-3) is 'the glory of Zion'. It reminds us of our liberation. The bright morning that will emerge from the darkness, the dream of that day was the day of the Messiah. That salvation had to be a world-historical event beyond Israel. This is a characteristic of grace from heaven (Genesis 12:3b). Today's New Testament text (Luke 4:16-19) is the word that announces the beginning of that salvation work. The Bible that Jesus read there on that day was the Old Testament book of Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1-3), which has fulfilled you today, proclaiming universal salvation that begins with you (Luke 4:21).
“The liberator is Jesus Christ”. 'The Holy Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, and has sent me to preach liberty to the captives, and restoration of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, and to the grace of the Lord. so that the year of righteousness may be preached' (Luke 4:18). The yoke of all oppression and suffering is removed. It is salvation that comes from meeting the Liberator, Jesus Christ, and conforming to that rule. The oppressed and the oppressed are saved together. The “Year of the Lord’s grace” is the “Year of Jubilee” (稀年). This is the year when all order will return to its original state. It is the year of returning to the life the Creator intended it to be. The festival celebrated every 70 years is the realization of a life that has become commonplace through the reign of Jesus Christ. It is a change that must take place on the Korean Peninsula as well.
