Old Testament
1. Your God saith, Comfort ye; comfort my people.
2. Speak ye so that it may reach the heart of Jerusalem, and cry unto it, The time of her labor is over, her iniquity is forgiven, and for all her sins he has received double the punishment at the hand of the LORD.
3. The voice of one who cries, saying, Prepare ye the way of the LORD in the wilderness; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4. Every valley shall be raised up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain.
5. The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, saith the mouth of the Lord.
new testament
1. He raised you, who were dead in trespasses and sins
2. In those days you walked in them, after the course of this world, and after the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience.
3. In the past, we too all lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like others.
4. Because of the great love that God, who is rich in mercy, loved us
5. We, who were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)
sermon
Today is Liberation Day anniversary. 69 years ago, on August 15, 1945, our people were liberated from Japanese colonial rule. The sovereignty of the country that had been taken away by the Japanese was restored. On this day, the joy of liberation overflowed from all over the country, and people ran into the streets, and all shouted “Long live the Korean independence” with one voice. However, the members of the Presbyterian Church could not help but rejoice on this day. A few years ago, the General Assembly gave in to the compulsion to worship a shrine, and the spirit of faith was broken, the church was forced to cooperate in the Japanese colonial war in the Pacific, and many young members were dragged to the battlefield.
Our country and the church, which had been liberated 69 years ago, had to start as a new country and a new church through thorough ‘repentance and forgiveness of sins’. But it wasn't that thorough. The Sewol ferry disaster that occurred in the spring of this year and the serial killings of the military base remind us of the need for newness through thorough repentance and forgiveness of sins. If we do not repent now with deep reflection and great remorse, these horrific events of anti-life may continue to occur and plunge many people into the abyss of death. On Liberation Day at such a time, our church should strive to intercede for society and the country. And we must contribute to building a new society of life and the kingdom of life by witnessing to Jesus Christ, the hope of the world and the source of life.
