Title: Life can't be bought with money
Contents
When Jesus preached the Word, he usually had one or two subjects.
However, in the first verse of today's text, he focuses on the fear of hell, God's wonderful providence, the importance of evangelism, and severe discipline and rebuke.
It is the waterfall of the Word itself.
Among the waterfalls of these words, suddenly, someone asks a question.
Verse 13 says, “Teacher, command my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
Jesus answered this question, “Man, who made me a judge or divider over you? Beware of all covetousness, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Talk about parables.
Jesus said that the essential problem of the older brother, who took possession of the property, was that of sin and greed, and pointed out that the younger brother was only interested in the stolen property in front of the great Word of God.
This too was the result of covetousness.
The Lord started the parable of the text to show that there is no meaning without a fundamental change in life.
The rich man in the parable looks like a pretty successful person.
He seems to be a future-oriented person who prepares for the future.
But the Bible calls it, “You fool!”
Why was it called that?
Through the text, we will look at the reason and what we should do in front of the Word.
First, he knew only himself and was only for himself.
Verses 17-19: “And he thought in his heart, saying, What shall I do, since I have no place to store the grain?
And he said, "This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and I will store all my grain and all my goods there.
And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; rest, eat, drink, and be merry."
The word that comes up the most here is ‘I’.
In the mind and heart of this rich man, he shows the height of selfishness that only he knows.
Ex) Characteristics of the last days
Even the soul does not hesitate to say that it is theirs.
We exist because of God and live with the help of our neighbors, but we deliberately forsake God and our neighbors and are unable to get out of the closed prison called ourselves.
Example) Lee Bok-sun, who donated 5 billion won
Second is materialism.
Verse 19 tells the soul to eat and rest, eat and drink, and be merry.
The rich confuse the needs of the soul with the needs of the body.
Ex) Matthew 4:4
Ex) Myers
Money can buy a bed.
But sweet sleep cannot be bought.
Money can buy food.
But can not buy appetite.
Money can buy a house.
But you cannot have a happy family.
Money can buy medicine.
But you can't buy health.
You can even buy a cross.
But the blood of Jesus and the risen Lord cannot live.
Organize your words.
Ex) The angel who appeared in Isaiah 6
The world is full of extreme selfishness and the idea that money is everything.
So, serving and consideration for others is gradually disappearing, and there is a bad trend of taking advantage of people to eat.
But remember.
The Bible speaks of the rich man who may have been successful, but he was foolish.
In the English Bible, it is blatantly saying ‘You fool!’
We want to have a warm heart that thinks of others, thinks of the members next to us, and prays.
It is true that material things are essential in our lives, but I pray in the name of the Lord that you will become faithful children of God who put God's word first and follow it like Jesus who stood before the temptation of the devil.
